Default Lowry’s gambles disrupt Dwane Casey's Game Plan - Doug Smith

Quote:
There’s a bit of gambler in Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry.

He likes to sneak around after a Raptors shot goes up, gamble that he’ll get a steal or disrupt the opponent; it’s a chance he takes a handful of times a game.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t and if coach Dwane Casey had his druthers, it’s not something that would happen at all because of the trickle-down impact it has on his team’s defence.

If Lowry’s lurking around under the basket, the Raptors are already defending four-on-five in transition and that’s never a good thing.

Kind of funny since this clown was a big Ocho fan and when he was on the floor we played 4 on 5 no matter where he was. lol

Oh Doug.

I saw the scrum. Casey accepts it more than Doug lets on. He said it's important for the corner guys to get back in those situations. Lowry and Casey are going to need to figure out when it's appropriate and when it's not. It should be doable.

I love his aggression tbh. It's amazing that Doug Smith is bitching about a 6ft player trying to do what the 7ft Italian should be doing but doesn't.

Doug Smith is a hack

well said. There are plenty of more pg's that do these things and they're quality players. just cause his name isn't on the same level of rondo or cp3 he get's hacked by a hack. there are far more pressing issues on defence like demar who (while improved) still has too many mental lapses on that end. and it's not like lucas plays better defence than lowry and yet he gets minutes like he's ocho lite.....

Kyle + Amir actually contribute on the court without scoring. It's refreshing actually.

Looks like the Raptors are gonna try and blame Lowry for their problems now. Of course the stats tell a completely different story though!

Doug isn't bitching, he's reporting what was said in the scrum.

It's amazing how people here hate Jose isn't it?
I hate to break the news to them. Lowry isn't what we thought he would be for this team.

I hate to break the news to you but lowry did play as we expected pre-injury. oh and right now? yeah he's playing with an injury in his foot. you play with an injury in your foot against nba level opposition and tell me how you fare. cp3 wouldn't be much either with lowry's injury.

jose, healthy or injured, led to 4v5 offence on 95 percent of defensive possesions. lowry injured leads to it what, 5 percent of the time, and that's cause he's fighting for a board with 7 footers because our own won't?

I've got to defend Lowry on this one, Casey is wrong that it shouldn't happen at all. A little bit of variance, unpredictability and chaos is good. The transition issue is an issue because every one of our players is guilty of jogging back at times. You have to have guys gambling so that opposing players aren't just running their sets seamlessly and unopposed. The extra rebounds do help too.

Lowry's been much better, but he's far too injury prone. Whatever though, should keep his cost down.

Didn't catch much of the Phoenix game, but I did see Telfair's ability to get some steals with his quickness.... was nice to see from a backup PG, doing something to at least make the other team feel some pressure.

I'm Curious. When people talk about Lowry, the first 5 games....do they believe that his super offensive numbers were what this team needed to get to the next level? Further to that, do you still believe that Jose Calderon, was really as bad as you thought?

I know I'm not really allowed to call people out for understanding the game, but honestly, some of just don't. It's simple, yet complicated. The actual answer is more close to NEITHER player being all that super. But both are good, for their own reasons.

It's pretty hilarious that the same guys calling for coaches heads, calling for GM's heads, calling out almost ALL the players for sucking over the last 7-8 years, ALSO will come on this forum, and with a straight face claim the Team lost because of Jose Calderon. That is one of the great RF mysteries I always struggle with.

i can't name one player at the PG position that would have lead this franchise to the playoffs all these years, not one. Maybe Lebron, if we played him at the 1.

It's uncanny how guys can turn their memories or brains, or whatever on and off as it pleases them.

when I see Lowry run an offence, anything close to one, all on his own and turn this group into a winner, on his own....man, I will be very excited. I don't see it so far, and to be honest, the team was winning quite a bit more when he was out, and when Jose was starting. So unless your claim is that Ed was making the team win... and that his loss, and gays gain was superiorly uneven, having Gay bring nothing close to the production Ed did....then I think you need to shut it down and concede... you aren't maing sense.
