Vasquez is an RFA, like Patterson. We can match any offers made to them. That's the one downside to his really solid offensive play recently: Vasquez might get an offer sheet above the qualifying offer, and that will eat into our future cap space to a greater degree than anticipated. But maybe Patterson can be had cheaper, since his play has dropped off a bit after his injury.

On the bright side, if for some reason Lowry doesn't re-sign, Vasquez looks like an okay insurance policy to keep us respectable.

It will be intersting to see what Vasquez gets, and whether a team like the Lakers throws a modest (but more than expected) contract his way, if they can't pry away Lowry.

I agree with Butch Carter about one thing...they should have signed Lowry earlier if possible. His feel-good sentiments are a good sign, but they are no guarantee the Lakers, Knicks or anyone else don't woo him away. GV won't be a replacement for Lowry. He's more Jose than people want to admit.

Well, if they could have, they would have. If Butch said that, he's just demonstrating how out of touch he is nowadays. Lowry can't sign for more than 3 years at 7M per, unless he waits for free agency.

interesting for sure - the problem with vasquez is that his defense is too bad to be a starter, but it only takes one desperate team. Can the MLE be used to sign RFA, or you need cap space to do it? I think the answer is probably no, but there will be so much money available this summer, it's going to be crazy. It also depends on how many bad teams want to jump start their evolution, philly and orlando can choose to stay tight on their purses for another season for example.

MLE can be used to sign RFA's.

Pay the man (Lowry) and keep him a Rap. I think if we match any offer that even the Knicks or Lakers make, I think he stays.

I dont think the Knicks have cap space, and the Lakers are pretty unlikely since they want to keep their cap space for the Kevin Love sweepstakes, plus they need to rebuild their roster with only 3 players locked into deals. I think our only compettition is Orlando.

I think Orlando could be a wildcard for KL if they don't draft Smart or Exum.

I've said that for a while now, i doubt they keep Nelson so even if they drafted a PG they might very well go after Lowry imo.

I think Houston has an outside chance too,if they can move Asik and/or Lin. They'll go for Lowry if they fail to get Anthony. Morey is aggressive GM that shouldn't be counted out.

Recently Lowry essentially said he regreted how his relationship went with McHale and Houston enquired about Lowry at the trade deadline. I think Lowry has matured and would be willing to go back to Houston for the right money + role. I do think they will make him an offer

Like how this matured version of Lowry has made DeRozan better,he would make Harden better...which is scary!
