Default Lowry Free Agency Wait and See thread

As per Woj:

Quote:
Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 1m
Expect Toronto GM Masai Ujiri to make aggressive bid to keep Kyle Lowry at midnight, try to wrap up deal before Miami/Houston can engage.
We should know tonight whether Lowry is re-signed, or if he's going to test the waters, and more information should come up if he's to do so, whether he wants to leave or not. Stay tuned.

12 mil over 5-7 years. Don't overpay. Bledsoe will likely be available and make for a viable replacement if Kyle bolts.

I've said all along (to much laughter) someone will give him 12 million per. My guess is they go slightly higher starting at 12 and escalating. 4 years 50 million and 5th year is a player option.

Hopefully he gets an offer like that and nobody else gets a chance to offer him anything like that, because he signs right away. The longer another team might get to look sexy, the greater the chance for disappointment.

Really? I always thought he will get in and around the 10-12 range. I thought it strange some would think he would be offered less.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't take his time tbh.

Doug Smith was the one perpetrating the rumours that Lowry would only be worth 7-8M on the market. It was nonsense then and it is nonsense now.

I expect a 5 year deal. I expect no options for either side. I expect about 12M per year, if this is a close-the-deal offer. That means $10,434,783 starting salary. Round it nicely to 10.5M and you get 5 years, 60.375M. That's my guess for the structure.

Personally I'd like that 5th year to be mostly unguaranteed (say, 3M guaranteed), but if this is a "don't even bother talking to HOU or MIA" deal, that's not gonna happen.

Taking your time as a free agent doesn't always work out. The Raptors are not going to stand still while Kyle shops around for just the right situation and offer. He'll get some time, but not much. He's not going to risk having to take a worse offer by waiting for the perfect offer.

Ultimately there is good honest communication established here. It's either going to happen or it's not. I'd be shocked if it doesn't. I think Miami would be asking him to wait some time for a precise number, and it will probably be on the low side. There's just somuch more involved there than just himself.

True. Why does he need to rush? I don't get it.

He'll want to be wooed imo. He's never had this opportunity and never will again.

whatever lowry wants, he'll get (in terms of salary), provided it's not insane
he will be overpaid regardless, and he is absolutely a risk. Yes, he says all the right words, about how he learned his lesson and all that, and he seems sincere. But he does have a bit of injury ridden past and he was a nutcase for all his career before this season. He may go back to that once he has security.

that being said, it's a risk we have to take - he's way too important for us and masai will be in a very good position to judge his character, much better than any of us.

Question is, is lowry willing to play (for the same money) on an up and coming team who will not compete for a title for the foreseeable future, or he will choose a contender?

As much as he may feel loyal to us, I think we'll need to overpay more than what a contender would if we want to keep him.

Honestly, I'd rather overpay lowry than have an extra 2 million to keep guys like buycks or stone on the roster.

I think we will have to bring a very strong offer in terms of $$$ in order to complete with the teams from FL and TX. (damn no-income-states).

He'll get 10 per year from us and I'd be comfortable with it.

Top 5 priorities for this summer

Jeff posted this. I believe he was referencing a TV segment or radio interview.
