Raptors Lowe: Lowry probably the best all around PG in the EC this season

Our NBA All-Star Team

Quote:
EASTERN CONFERENCE

Starters
G Kyle Lowry, Toronto Raptors
G John Wall, Washington Wizards
FC LeBron James, Miami Heat
FC Paul George, Indiana Pacers
FC Roy Hibbert, Indiana Pacers

Reserves
G Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat
G Arron Afflalo, Orlando Magic
FC Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks
FC Chris Bosh, Miami Heat
FC Joakim Noah, Chicago Bulls
WC Paul Millsap, Atlanta Hawks
WC Mike Conley, Memphis Grizzlies/Goran Dragic, Phoenix Suns2*(but really Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers)
Quote:
Toronto fans are clamoring for DeMar DeRozan to make the team, and while he does have a case, Lowry has been the team’s best player — and probably the best all-around point guard in the Eastern Conference this season. He’s taken flight offensively since the Rudy Gay deal, and he’s found a way to reconcile his havoc-creating gambles on defense with Dwane Casey’s larger scheme. Wall is right there with him, a deserving All-Star who props up a Wizards offense that basically dies when he sits.

A starter? Damn. That would be amazing. Don't know how realistic it is.

It's not. The starters are voted in by fans, so they are always a little out of whack. Lowe is just putting the best 5 in the starting lineup (in his opinion).

Even though Lowry desrves to be allstar much more than DD I'd rather have DD as an allstar, because Kyle will be a FA

Who cares if he'll be a FA. Merit is what matters, and Lowry has earned any recognition he may get, including an All-Star nod.

Well as a Raptor fan you should care, especially if we are going to try to re-sign him

Lowry has been the better overall player than Derozan this season. He is starting to gamble on defense like last season. I hope the coaches straighten that out.

That makes absolutely no sense.

Whether or not he makes the All-Star Game will have little to do on his future with the Raptors. All-Star Games are about recognition. That's it. It might drive up his asking price, but an All-Star Game appearance won't determine if Lowry sticks around. Actually, it might work in the Raptors' favour because a) he's excelling in Casey's system; b) despite playing in Toronto he's getting recognized for his play; and c) he's one of the core guys in Toronto, which he may not be elsewhere.

Did you consider that perhaps the need to gamlbe may be because of our fall off in interior defence?

He was always a gambler, it's not like all of a sudden he does that due to our poor interior defence.

Yep - KL over Kyle or Lowry

I would say Wade should be left out this season, though the longtime all stars should maybe get a pass. They mostly do by getting voted in. But if he's basing it strictly on merit for right now, i think Wade is a bit of a stretch.

Yep, i think the bigger risk would be him not getting the recognition and being pulled elsewhere as a result. And just being considered for the AS game is going to do enough for his market value. Making it will not drive up the cost exponentially or anything.

only someone who values ppg as the ultimate stat can put demar above lowry. It's not even remotely a contest. Amir vs lowry, that's a bit harder, but for all his ups and downs, you can rarely say about kyle that he's not going all in. Wish the same would be true for amir.

as for his value, an all star selection would be bad for us, but not terribly so. The fact remains that most team don't need lowry who is at best a minor upgrade over their current PG. There's just so much talent at that position and lowry comes with some question marks.

most likely,we'll have to pay a little more to retain him. Shouldn't be a huge increase though.

It's not about him sticking around or not but his price will go up and we will have to give him a bigger contract

sure, except whether he makes it or not, he's almost the same player. As an all star, he may get a bit of added confidence and respect from the officials, so it's not a total loss if we have to pay an extra 500k for his contract.
