We need to be careful and not expect too much from a young player ... especially a Centre. Lets be patient. He clearly has the motor and skills ...
He should become a solid starter for the raps ...

So far, Jonas is not good enough to play in the NBA.

I'm a little bit worried about this sudden overhype for Jonas. Raptors fans might be somewhat dissapointed, seeing him struggle at first in the NBA. He is a great talent, but NBA has lots of them and it's a tough competition. It might be too physical for him at first.
And yes, he is not reay to play in the nba at all yet. I think he will start to excel in NBA in his his second/third year.

I'm looking forward to the European Championships though. I think that would be a more accurate test since he's going against players of all ages, including some NBA talent.

But what he did at the U-19 was simply amazing. 23 PPG, 14 RPG and 3.2 blocks is ridiculous for about 20-30 minutes in most nights.

Don't think that JV will get to the National team so easily. The Tournament takes place in Lithuania and the coach already said that it won't be a young team and only the best players will be in it, no exceptions. So everyone knows that Javtokas is still nr.1 center in our Squad and we still have both brothers Lavrinoviciai. Yes they can play PF, but we have many good PF's/C as well including another prospect Motiejunas, who I think at the moment is better than JV. So don't rush with JV being in the national team.

Coach has no choice but to take him. Politically you have to take the U19 phenom, it's just how it works. Maybe he isn't ready to take the starters role, but as a bench player, you're not losing much having this kid come in.... not much at all.

He must play. He is better than D-Mo, that guy is enigma, he gives nothing on D and hes just arrogant jerk. Some guys hates him, and there is a reason, i heard a lot of things about that guy... Lithuania has it's scorers already and it's very friendly team with great chemistry. Motiejunas is cancer... He is like Anakin Skywalker, only as talented as Jar Jar...

And I dont understand some fans... Why they underestimate Jonas so much? Because he played only 15 minutes per game on a pretty crappy Euroleague team? Look what he did on the floor. He was amazing. Best Euroleague scoring, efficiency and rebounding rates per minute. The things why he played less minutes were :
First, coaches. They made worst team player look like a team star. I am talking about Barjanovic. I am not kidding, that guy is a fusion between Bargnani and Turkoglu. He is so bad and lazy, i cant even describe. And of course, a lot of ''fans'', who can't understand basketball what so ever, thought he is good, cause he can score...
Second - fouls. Foul in every 5 minutes limited Jonas' minutes.
Then, experience, no coach wants to see 18 year old playing in crucial minutes.
And Finally, strength. Jonas added 1 inch length and about 12 lbs. during the year. He is more ready now...

I don't know who is actually better, Javtokas or Valanciunas... In fact, Lithuania play young, up tempo basketball, it's ideal for Jonas. LT NT has long bench, so Jonas' foul trouble will be less of a problem too...

I believe in this Eurobasket, teams can bring 14, not 12 men roster. So I guess there is 6 spots for bigs. No chance Jonas will be cut.
3 best : Javtokas, Valanciunas, K. Lavrinovic,
3 more : D. Lavrinovic, Jankunas, Motiejunas/Songaila.
My list.

Firstly come on, Motiejunas is not arrogant. He cracked some jokes in press. It is not arrogance. And how can you compare Valanciunas and Motiejunas. They play in different positions and their roles are different.

Secondly, Javtokas > Valanciunas, seriously? Dude, wake up. Javtokas is not a great scorer, but he is the best in senior team when it comes to defence.

I have no problems with Valanciunas being second or third centre in the team, but it is too soon for him to be #1. Valanciunas is just not as good as Javtokas... yet.

It has nothing to do with D-Mo's press...
That press was a joke, but it also showed his persona once again. If you ever heard inside info from Lithuanian camps, you know that guy. Is no secret.

Then again, i know D-Mo and JV are different players. But I compare value. Donatas can score more, but he is also an ISO big. Playing up tempo team offense, Jonas can offer a lot, maybe even more. And it doesn't matter Donatas is better offensively, cause he is way worse on D and rebounding. What type of guy you want on your bench, high motor, quick, defensive, rebounding, tall guy, or arrogant ISO big, who can't rebound, block, play D and who may end up whining about his role and minutes?

I agree Javtokas is number one, but as i said, I believe some people underestime Jonas. He is closer to Javtokas when you think. I always loved Javtokas, but he is slowing down. Still a better leaping ability, strength and defense, but Jonas is better floor runner, a lil better rebounder and has better BB IQ. 25 minutes for Javtokas, 15 for Jonas, sounds fair to me.

D-Mo Arrogant or not, if he can work his defense up, he will be a beast.

At the end of close game who would you like on the floor? JV who shoots FT at 82% or Javtokas at 50%? I think you right about distribution of minutes and as well it will depend on matchups... vs more physical players Javtokas is better option vs finesse give me JV everyday.

Yes, it depends on matchups. If you really need defense and man toughness, you keep Javtokas. But against for example Czech Republic, or other less talented teams I think Jonas should play more. He is way better on offense and his length would be enough on D.

lets face it, JV is not ready for the nba. Skill wise maybe, but he needs a lot of work still, i dont expect a lot from him on his first year but as soon as he bulks up to about
250 lbs and up then i see him to start doing some damage in the nba. the plus side i see as well is that he's only 19 and who knows, he might still go through a lil growth spurt and add another inch. Im exited to see him in a raps uniform but i also understannd that it wont happen overnight and YES!!! there are way too many JV thread!!!!

next year, more euro experience. rookie season, plenty of mins (like ed,) some really good games, some bad games. Sophmore year, pretty much the same but with more good games and maybe a few more mins. 3rd year (4 years time,) we really see him start to produce, maybe push to be a starter. 4th year with raps, solid starter. That's a long time frame but then it fits in with the rebuild. That's why i think colangelo wants a vet C. Even chandler at 29 would be well into his 30s by the time we could expect val to push for starter.

Thats about the same time frame im seing although it could be sooner if he bulks up faster and i really think he will add another inch or two.

Default For a Bargnani-JV matchup to be possible...

First, Lithuania and Italy have to get out of their respective groups.

Lithuania will need to be top 3 out of a group of Poland, Great Britain, Turkey, Lithuania, Spain, and one of (Finland, Hungary, Portugal). Turkey and Spain are probably locks, and I would expect Lithuania to have no problem either. Poland, Britain, and the other 3 teams are definitely underdogs here.

Italy will need to be top 3 out of a group of Italy, Israel, France, Latvia, Germany, and Serbia. I don't know as much about this group, but Italy would have to catch lightning in a bottle and sneak ahead of at least one of France, Germany, and Serbia.

In the first round, each team plays every other team in their group once. So they would probably need to win 3 games at the very least, and probably 4 to get through, depending on whether the top teams are undefeated or not.

IF they both make it through, the good news is they will meet up in the 2nd round - not the elimination final round, since their two groups (A and B) make up one group of six teams in round 2 (Group E). Each team in group A plays each team in group B once (so 3 games for each team). So, Lithuania would then be guaranteed to play against Italy once.

At that point there is pretty much no chance of Italy going further in the competition. Although if they do (they would need to be top 4 of the 6 in group E - and would probably need to win 2 out of 3 games to do it), they could possibly face Lithuania in the final round (elimination games). It would depend entirely on their relative placement in group E when in the final round they could meet (from as early as the semi-finals or consolation rounds, 5th to 8th place deciding, to as late as the final).
