I don't think I said anything about how his knees will turn out. I said that there is a chance to see a guy turn out differently than a young Bosh, who hurt his knees right away. Both players excelled at being able to get airborn pretty quickly, and be very active and mobile. Bosh added strength and bulk and lost a lot of that lift. I would hope that this kid could fill out his frame, which is apparently much wider according to those who have seen it up close (I'm guessing you are his tailor moremilk?) and still get that explosive lift. It could mean a chance to be something like a Bill Russell, even if he doesn't get incredibly strong, which would make increased strength not so critical really, relative to how he plays now, which is about knowing how to use what he has.

Without the lift and the quick moves, he could be anything from a Pachulia to a poor-man's Chandler, which wouldn't be terrible. Adding nothing but strength just isn't going to give him the same sort of advantages that I see as possible at the moment. Others obviously might see things differently.

Adding upper body muscle DOES make you slower. Only in such a intense runs as sprint, human really uses his big upper body strength (check out slo-mo replays), in other cases, extra weight is an obstacle...
I never said anything about big upper body..Those pics were just an example. What I said/meant was Most people believe adding muscle will alone make you slower. I used to believe this too but after tons of research over the years I have learned that this is a MYTH. And that is a fact, research it if you don't believe me.

Quote:
Yes... But heavier people still must to give up more energy and losing their foot quickness no matter what they do. And PRO basketball is extremely fast sport.

No. My post means sprinters bodies developed for sprints. They can do a lot, they are very strong, but their main strength is 10/20 seconds run. Their strong and heavy upper body would be an obstacle in long run, just like to any basketball players, who wasting his stamina way more than 20 seconds...
Again I never said anything about upper body. Since you just choose to ignore part of my post ill write it again. Basketball is a series of anaerobic activities(e.g. Driving full force to the rim) split apart by some aerobic activity (jogging back) and some resting time(e.g. free throws, time outs, breaks). Yes Basketball players need stamina but the more important part is the short bursts. Most of the damage is done in these small bursts of anaerobic activity.(Driving to the rim, jumping up quick for a block, running the fast break). Of course there are other factors too, like being talented, deceptive, crafty etc but that is not what we're talking about.

Quote:
Bottom line. Extra weight does make you slower. Fact. Muscle=weight.
I just Gave you Marathon runner example, cause both, Marathon and Basketball demands stamina. Difference, Marathon needs nothing else, thats why it's runners can allow themselves to have such a fragile upper body (not like Basketball players, because it's very physical sport).
Look, I am not arguing or just giving my opinion here. What I am Saying is actual facts which I have learned. Stronger Muscles contract faster and generate more power. I have done tons of research on this but here is a little bit I could find in 5 minutes:

Quote:
Now for the next statement: “Big muscles make you slow”. Really?? Do we REALLY still live in 1900? Big muscles DON’T make you slow. They make you FASTER. With an increase in force output your joints have no choice but to move faster. It’s not even POSSIBLE that you can move slower if (here it is again: “all else being equal”) you produce more force. Yes, there is a small decrease in the RoM of a muscle as it grows. But unless you’re a professional bodybuilder (in which case you wouldn’t even care about sports performance) you have no worries here.
Take a look at the average NFL linebacker. Are they slow? An average of six feet tall at 240lbs and they’ll crush almost anyone you know in the 100 meter dash. So why do we still have this stigma about big guys being slow? Because old habits die hard. And old stereotypes even harder. The fact is that as long as the amount of muscle mass that you gain is compensated for by the force output that it can produce, you will always get faster. Speed of movement is directly related to your muscle mass. Being more muscular will make you faster in the relational joint. Save for a bit of extra weight from the muscle itself and the “angle-of-pull”.

Quote:
Here’s my simple response (a little over simplified, but again this is speaking to the general public and not other trainers.)

“Have you watched the Olympics?”

“Which runners are more muscular, the fast sprinters or the slower marathon runners?”

“Therefore, does muscle make you slow, or are the Olympians doing it wrong?”
Link :Speed Training – Myth Busters Edition : Synergy Athletics – Muscle and Strength Training For Athletes

Quote:
Myth 4: Weight training will: (take your pick)

* Make you slower;
* Tighten your muscles and make you prone to fatigue;
* Decrease Flexibility; or

* Only be beneficial with light weights and high reps.

The proper weight training gives you more explosive movements. It will make you faster....not slower.

Weightlifting is anaerobic in nature, just like boxing. See a parallel here? Your muslces will be stronger, not tightened and tired. It is likely you will be able to move your muscle through a more increased range of motion, because you practice doing that while lifting weights.
Link: Boxing Training Myths | How-to-Box.com

Quote:
You have probably heard that “building muscle will only make you slower”. Again, this holds no truth to it. Building muscles will actually make you faster as it is your muscles that control your body movement.
Link: Truth about Building Muscle ? 5 Myths Destroyed

So please next time you so blatantly tell me Im wrong do a little research and get your facts right.

I agree with tdotballing, lean muscle is not going to slow him down. Look at Football players, some of the receivers are the most athletic people i ever saw. And they are very muscular yet they can change direction, jump, stop and run really fast! Itis all about flexibility.Staying flexible even when adding muscle is very important (running,streching,swiming helps alot)

the thing about losing quickness has to do with adding a fair bit of weight that brings some wear and tear over 82 games. He can get plenty strong without needing to turn into the hulk. If he can get half the mileage that KG got out of his legs then it'll all be good. Of course he'll be using those legs to hold off bigger players than KG saw most games, so by the time they start to lose some bounce to them, then he can add more weight like Sabonis did to see him through to the end of his career.

If he adds lean muscle he should be fine with another 15lbs or sowithout loosing lift and speed it is useless to compare him to Sabonis. Because sabas was never ripped, and fat is a last thing we want Jonas to gain..

He can add a lot more than 15 lbs without losing lift and speed. Until he starts looking like a bodybuilder (which is a lot more than 15 lbs more) he is ok to gain muscle without losing any speed.

And yes you are right LX about the wear and tear but that is different for every person and that is something that his trainers will take into consideration.

Black Eyed Peas are terrible. If you are going to autotune that much, at least make yourself sound good.

The main center, Javtokas:

Twins, can play both the C and PF:

Another center, Petravičius:

Javtokas is in anyway. So basically, the competition is between Jonas, twins and Petravičius.
