Default Looking at the Positives Again

A Post from Thriller spoke to a lot of the happiness the day that Sam was fired. He could have copied and pasted it from the Fire Smitch website for all I know. So Thrills - I don't mean to single you out. I would just like another look at the sentiments, shared by so many besides yourself, that made the need to fire Sam so obvious. I'm sure I'm going to come off toall the Sam-haters as a dick, but my intent is to offer some evidence that a coaching change is hardly a cure-all. And I applaud Thriller's last point heartily, particularly since he made it not the least of his points.

LETS THINK OF THE POSITIVES:
I have tried. Honestly. But chanting "LONG LIVE SAM" probably doesn't count huh?

Quote:
1. THE NEXT HEAD COACH WE GET WILL BE 10000000X BETTER THEN SMITCH CUZ SMITCH DIDNT KNOW HIS ASS FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND.
But it does appear that Smitch had some clue as to how to get the most out of his star player, and was seeing some real signs of progress with the star pick. Triano and BC declared that they were going to push the ball more, and yet they haven't, so I wonder who doesn't know what ass.

Quote:
2. NO MORE LINE CHANGES IN THE 2ND QTR.
Nope, not true - not from what I saw last night. The only starter in there for a time was Kapono, who is barely even a starter. Funny that it got no mention in the game thread.

Quote:
3. NO MORE POST GAME INTERVIEWS WITH THE WORD 'SHATS' SAID 10000X LIKE HOCKEY PLAYERS SAY 'UH'.
That's about the only thing said by everyone after the NOH game.

Quote:
4. MORE THAN 0 IN GAME ADJUSTMENTS.
I was waiting for something to be done to stop the bleeding last night. The Nets were overloading the strong side to keep Bosh from being effective. How hard was it to figure out that they needed to move the ball to the weakside every now and then? Didn't happen. They just kept going into the teeth of the defense - Bosh, JO, Parker - or they had Bargs and Jose hesitating before finally shooting from the outside.

Quote:
5. MORE THAN 1 ROTATION PER DEFENSIVE POSSESSION.
Mixed results here, but the same held true pre-Triano. Definitely some glimmer of promise defensively, but I expected more all season. The emphasis recently, has been on closing off the lane rather than contesting jumpers. They have improved in terms of initial penetration, but have not shut down the lane when it comes to rebounders. When it comes to getting stops at all costs at vital points in games - I see no real improvement yet.

Quote:
6. OUR PLAYERS NOT LOOKING LOST EVERY POSSESSION.
This one is obviously overstated and barely deserves a response, but I mean, how lost do you have to be as an entire team, to go 9 minutes without a fg, with three consecutive airballs, ridiculous turnovers, and no sense of what needed to be done in the mix?

Quote:
7. MORE THAN 2 PLAYS ON OFFENCE!
Hey - there are no more plays! It's all about having fun and playing ball! (I thought I'd allow myself a little exaggeration here).

Quote:
8. LAYUPS OUT OF TIMEOUT PLAYS?????!!!!!
Missed those. I did notice the open shots out of timeouts for the other team.

Quote:
9. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, ITS NOW BCS TIME TO FILL OUT THE ROSTER. NOW THE OWNESS IS ON HIM TO GET A GOOD NEW COACH AND ONE BIG PIECE AND A COUPLE SMALL PIECES SO WE CAN TAKE THAT NEXT STEP.
Here's hoping. But I smell blowing the whole thing up.

I think you forgot about how Kapono can't get shots with this team because we lack a true pg like TJ Ford, and how no coach can change that ...

Why don't you think Jose is a true PG?

He's probably going to say that it's me that thinks that Jose isn't a true pg. Honestly, I can't figure the guy out. I'm pretty sure that his greatest joy is stringing me along in pages of babble, until I don't even know what my own thoughts are.

hey, you're the one who brings out the negatives even when we win a game - don't look at me ...

I'm also pretty sure I remember when you said that no coach can hide Jose's defensive liabilities, and yet in the past 4 games he's no longer getting killed. His defense is still poor, but at least we don't get killed, depsite having played the faster PGs in the league recently.

I don't understand why you can't stop attacking triano, after every game, regardless of the outcome. I honestly have no opinion on triano yet - to me it seems that we play better on both offense and defense. But I don't know if it's Triano's merit. Maybe the players are playing harder, as they usually do after a coaching change, maybe we got lucky when opponets have missed some easy shots. But I'm willing to give Triano a chance to prove that he can coach, and that this team is better than we're seeing. I don't undersant why you don't feel the same.

Wrong again. I said our coach has no real options available to hide Jose's liabilities when he's getting killed. I simply think we desperately need another strong defender to capitalize on JO's abilities. Hassel would have been a nice pickup. NJ got him and we got NJ's garbage. Now we get to be happy about competing with the lesser teams only. Yay.

fine - that's not the way I remember it, and I could probably search for a post where you said exactly what I mentioned above.

As for hassel, he makes 5 million dollars, not 500k like adams, so that's a useless comparison. For that money, you're better off with someone like posey or pietrus.

I said that if Frank had to play Yi extended minutes he would be outcoached every game. I went into this season very supportive of keeping Jose and building a team that actually hid his liabilities - a team different from last season. But I also expected the guys that BC picked up beyond JO would be about bringing that much needed defense. You don't have to search far - look at the RF blog. And the adams comparison is hardly useless. NJ got rid of him to make space, and they eventually got Hassel. We could have made room as well, and we would look a hell of a lot better. In case you missed it, guys like him, and Posey, and Pietrus have been the difference in many games where a guy like Jose was not.

you're not making sense at all. If we only had 2 millions left, how can we possibly get someone like hassel who makes 4.3 (this year and the next)? An even better question is, how can we possibly get anybody worth anything for 700k or whatever we're paying hassan and solomon?

And if you are against the JO trade, than go ahead and say it - even though it's been debated to death. But if you're not, than don't be hypocritical and complain that Bryan wasn't able to acquire real players for the veteran minimum - it was an accepted fact that once we get JO we won't have any more money left.
