Default Let's make a move for Kevin Love

I hear kings, wizards and a few other teams are starting to show interest in love. How about Raptors make a push to sign him too?

Best I can figure is a DD-Amir-#20-2016 Knicks 1st for Love deal, on the assumption Love opts into his player option year.

What exactly do you think teams will be offering that is better than an all-star wing, a solid PF, a late 1st in a deep draft and a potential lottery pick?

I'm not saying the Wolves will take this deal. I'm just saying the deal they take will be comparable to this one.

Yes, but why would we want Love? He is a sub-par defender, and while having a great rebounder and a stretch four on offense is nice, I just don't see him as a difference maker.

An all-star wing, a defensive PF and two firsts for a guy with one year left his contract. I din't want a trade like this at this stage

He is elite offensively and a hall of fame level rebounder, and he's sub-par defensively, not terrible. Casey has proven he can design a team defence that can hide individual defenders fairly well. You don't think Love is a difference maker? He's freaking great.

If you read my post you'll see the deal is contingent on him opting into his final year, giving us two years to convince him to re-sign.

Well, OK, he is A difference-maker, just not THE difference-maker, IMO. In this league, you want your franchise-level talent at 1-2-3, if at all possible, because of the way the rules are written and the game is called.

Subpar defender is overblown.

He is not defensive team material, but his defense is certainly passable.

Defensive rating 104 (bosh 104, Griffin 103, Ibaka 102, Aldridge 104, Millsap 102, jones 105) He is not far off of the others guys who are all considered good - great defenders. Add to that guys like Griffin and joneswho have the benefit of playing beside great defenders in Howard and Jordan.

Offensive rating 120, 8th in the league with only 3 guys with higher usage in front of him. (Lebron, Durant, Paul)

Net rating +16

For Comparison
Terrence Jones 119/105 - Net +14
Ibaka 115/102 - Net +13
Griffin 114/103 - Net +11
Duncan 106/98 - Net +8
Bosh 112/104 - Net +8
Aldridge 108/104 - Net +4
Millsap 105/102 - Net +3

Lebron 121-105 - Net +16

Defensive win shares this season was at 3.7, top 30 in the league, not too bad, but coupled with his incredible offense (top 3 offensive winshares(behind only Lebron and Durant)and top 4 winshares per 48, top 3 winshares.

Could his defense be better, definately. Would it improve from playing on a better defensive team, absolutely.

Duncan plays beside a 102 defender
Griffin plays beside a 98 defender
Ibaka beside a 104 defender

Love
Center is rated 108
SF is rated 107
SG is rated 109
PG is rated 104

Minnesota's defense is terrible, Love is fine.

If you say so. I'll take any shot the team has at getting any elite talent - it's rare enough without putting positional restrictions on it.

He isnt sub par defensively, he is right there with the likes of Bosh, Griffin, Aldridge.

His entire team sucks defensively as a whole, put him beside even adaquate defenders and that 104 defensive rating drops at least a couple points, putting him around the tops for power forwards.

Pair one of the leagues best P&R point guards with the one of the best power forwards in the game and you have the makings of one of the leagues top teams. Throw a defensive minded solid shooting wing player(Ross) and a bigman who can rebound and do dirty work down low(JV) nice depth and you are looking damn fine.

Yeah, watching him he's a little below average defensively. But I agree that statistically there seems to be the suggestion that perhaps the team around him is killing him.

I honestly don't care whether you want to classify him as sub-par, average, or elite defensively. His offense and rebounding is enough that his defense is a secondary concern so long as it isn't Bargnani level.
