According to Adam Silver, Bobby Webster is the smartest man in the NBA, says Leiweke.

right decision...it's not smart when soooo many teams are tanking and the eastern conference is so weak

We've been saying this for so long. Still don't get how some people don't understand that.

Just because you say something doesn't make it right :)

Orlando, Philly, Boston, Phoenix, and Sacramento are the only teams not even trying for playoffs. Deal Rudy and lowry, we could easily be bottom 5.

As for the quotes, it doesn't seem Leiweke knows what he's saying. I'm pretty sure he just said last week "we may have to suck to be good."

this.. TL is all over the place right now.

And depending on how you interpret this, he could be saying that we're going to be so bad we don't need to worry about ping pong balls.

Kirby 07-26-2013 02:19 AM

once again, supposedly we do tank: TL will not blatantly say we will tank, it's bad for business. "May have to suck to be good" is a way to hedge your bets in terms of speech. I don't buy that we are going in.

Yup. You're nuts if you think they would openly announce tanking. Multiple reasons to not announce it:
1. He'd be sending a warning to season ticket holders that they should cancel those tickets.
2. Masai has said he's not gonna give players away, to maximize value you need to have leverage.
3. The players might give up on themselves and it might lead tolong term issues.
4. I'm pretty sure openly tanking is not allowed in the NBA.

Some of you are so thirsty for the tank. You're like sluts begging for the D. "Give me the tank! Give me the tank!"

:jack:

Anyway, I think the statement is reconcilable, because timing matters. I could be wrong about this, but I suspect the "suck to be good" comment was made earlier in the summer when there was more uncertainty about free agency and shit. It was back when there was a lot of activity, the new cap year began, and there was the possibilty of teams looking to make trades after striking out in free agency, or just getting more cap space once the new year began.

But now that things are clearer, and it's apparent nobody is going to give fair value for assets, they have decided to just keep moving forward without any consideration for ping pong balls. That is, they are not going to give shit away just for the sake of tanking.

I mean, you guys are like "hey, let's just trade away Lowry and Gay, then we'll be bottom 5 no problem". Okay, that might have been considered when the "suck" comment was made. But now that they know you're just getting expirings and one crappy pick, they've said fuck it.

My interpretation makes just as much sense as yours.

Mind reading is fun. :mu:

I think Hakeem is currently coaching Dwight Howard @ Houston Rockets.
We should get Mutombo as a coach :cookie:

Except I've acknowledged this before and have said that we are holding onto these players because of the scenario you said above...

Kirby 07-26-2013 03:42 AM

We seem to be in a middle ground where the decision is yet to be made. We'll just have to wait and see how things go I suppose.
Edit: what I am saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if we do gut the team come mid season when and if better offers come, nor will I be surprised if we stick to it. If we do the latter, it'll be shittier long term than better for sure.

Kirby 07-26-2013 03:46 AM

anyways, Bill's smart enough to see the bigger picture. I'm sure he just wanted to play devil's advocate lol.
