Raptors Leiweke, Raptors hire a firm to find a possible replacement for BC

Quote:
According to NBA sources, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment — and new chief executive officer Tim Leiweke — has to decide by Monday on whether to pick up Colangelo’s option year for 2013-14.
That will end a drawn-out saga of Colangelo’s future that’s been in question since Leiweke took over as the majordomo at Maple Leaf Sports last month.

While not officially on the job yet, Leiweke has been given all responsibility to determine Colangelo’s fate. The two men have met and discussed plans for the Raptors future but neither has spoken publicly about their feelings.

And Leiweke is not conducting the search for a possible replacement on his own; multiple NBA sources say MLSE has hired a head-hunting firm to whittle down a list of possible replacements.

Two names being tossed around NBA circles at the league’s annual draft combine are Kevin Pritchard, currently the general manager of the Indiana Pacers and Troy Weaver, the vice-president and assistant general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

There may be others on any short list compiled by the unnamed search firm but neither of those are seen as the slam-dunk, high-profile executives many were expecting to emerge from Leiweke’s search.

So Leiweke needs a head hunting firm to 'find' him possible GM replacements? this just must be the basketball genius we have been waiting for to run MLSE; a guy, who needs other guys to find him the right guy for the job while also shitting all over the guy thats the backup GM for 2013-14 if all else fails.....nice! Were for sure going to have high profile GM's lining up to take a shot at running the Raptors now!

Yeah the man that knows all and has the connections needs a firm to find a GM?

And would Pritchard or Weaver be an upgrade?

Pritchard? Interesting. He would shake the hell out of this team. I wonder what he thinks of Gay, considering he passed on him twice in the draft.

Un-named sources, un-named head hunting agency, a couple names that are severely under whelming and no decision public? If the team is waiting still, seems to be about a candidate that's in the playoffs which doesn't make sense as Pritchard hasn't even been on the job for a year (started June 2012) and he didn't even assemble this group in the first place. Also, tell me why he would leave the Pacers when they are on the cusp of great things? I highly doubt Pacers would even give permission. Troy Weaver, really??I? This article is just speculative at best, and poorly done. 'Has to decide by Monday'? Says who, other than BC saying see ya I don't see a reason that it has to be this Monday - none at all.

Weaver would be a good get - one of the top rising GM "prospects" as it were in the league.

Personally, I vote Zarren. Pritchard has been a little unstable... Weaver I would be happy with. Build through the draft sort of guy - would signal an impending blow-it-up-for-Wiggins route.

I presume that is the deadline in his contract for the option to be picked up, as implied in the article. So... reality says so.

Now why would you go and say that? I think it would signal the Raptor organization is still a joke.

Why? That's the deadline to pick-up the option. Reality says they can do what they want....let it go, extend it, new contract. Reality says they can have many options if they decide they want more time

If bitchy means not taking shit from you and a few others, then yes and that's ok. IF bitchy to you means not agreeing with you 100% of the time and I'm ok with that also.

what shit? You're the one that started shit. An article was posted and all you've done is bitch about it. You really hate the word "sources" don't you?

If you think the article is Bullshit why continue posting in this thread?

so basically, they have to do something by Monday. Either unilaterally (pick up/decline option) or open talks with Colangelo about a new contract.

What's the point of arguing? Jeff posted something he saw online and it looked interesting, done deal. Hopefully it's true
