Leiweke: Lowry Will Be Re-Signed, he has a Bond With Masai

Lowry talk starts at 5:55. He says that KL will be signed and that he has a bond with Masai. He wants Kyle Lowry and Michael Bradley to be the heart and soul of MLSE and wants to teach the Leafs to understand that kind of intensity....lol

Also says they were CLOSE to changing the name from Raptors to Huskies or?? And says they're about to put 50-60Mil into the ACC to renovate it (please put in theatre lighting).

I watched the whole interview...I usually don't watch such long interviews but this man is damn interesting and convincing. Learning about his past life events that shaped him and his view points on life in general was inspiring. MLSE is very lucky to have him running things

I haven't been too concernd for a while. You can see a bond. Masai did more than just turn his head around. He showed him a path for the future. When you hear Kyle's agent talk about how much Kyle wants and needs the tough things said to him, and how loyal he is, then it pretty much adds up to playing here. Masai also talked to him about a future after he's done playing. Kyle saw how Alvin took advantage of that sort of opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of soft promise was made in that respect. I just think it would be hard for him to find a better opportunity for himself all around.

Butch was on tim and sid blathering on about this with various criticisms of Kyle and the front office. I honestly could not make out just what point he was making, other than that he should be the coach and GM maybe. I'm getting very tired of hearing him go on and on about how much knowledge he has in his notebooks and how much he learned from smelling Magic's armpits, and how great he was here. Yeah - you made Christie hate you by playing him out of position , and ignored what Alvin had to offer. It's becoming quite apparent why the team rebelled against you. You are a tad out of touch with reality.

^I can't stand Butch Carter anymore, dude thinks he knows everything. & it seems like he's on like everyday now.

Listening to the interview right now, really hope Kyle does re-sign.

i just listened to this interview in its entirety. It was enjoyable. I'm about 80% sold on Liewike, but i still have my doubts. He certainly talks a big game and i think that's what raises the question marks. He talks about the Raptors like they're totally fixed and on their way to title contention, but it could all go pear shaped in the near future. and he's really done nothing to adress the leafs. If anything his one big maple Leaf move (signing Nonis to a 5 year extension before seeing any results) has been a huge mistake.

Hockey isn't his thing. Appatently he is looking to hire a hockey guy to over see that team.

Because he knew him from LA. Even he says he's more of a Soccer and Basketball guy. It's in the media that he's looking to hire a hockey guy to over see hockey operations.I never said he knows absolutely nothing, but even the hockey guys in the media admit this.

So, if he doesn't fix the hockey team? Whatever. Maybe just the size of the basketball audience will grow even faster. Let's not worry about hockey problems. This is a basketball forum. Let the hockey folk wring their hands and gnash their teeth on a hockey forum.

people can discuss whatever they want and there are a lot of people who support both the basketball and hockey teams. The thing that people need to keep in mind is that Liewike is in charge of all the teams. It goes without saying that the hockey side is the heaviest weighted of all the teams it just is. His performance there relevant when it comes to how he performs in his role and thus how long he keeps his job. I just find it odd that in that interview he's already talking about stanley cups and making some pretty bold statements when his team sucks the bag.

They should discuss hockey on a hockey forum. If we went to a Leafs forum and started talking basketball under the same topic, the hockey posters would gladly tell us to go forth and multiply and go back to the basketball forum where the hoops peons belong.

Call me a pessimist but I think for Lowry it will come down to $$$ over any kind of bond he might have with Masai or any of the other players. He may want to stay here but I don't think he will take less money to play in Toronto.

We will sign him if our offer is competitive. Should be a soft market for pgs which is a bonus but if someone throws big money at him then I think you'll see DeColo backing up Vasguez next year.

I doubt they decide not to trade him at the deadline, go on nationalk television and claim they WILL sign him and then not give him at least a competitive offer. IMO, TL doesn't seem like the type of guy that tries to cheap out on a player he deems important and that he is determined to sign. I think he gets signed for 4yrs/40mil or somewhere in that ballpark.

ya, i'm guessing it's a done deal...4/40 sounds reasonable

Right...I agree with you. I guess my point is that if we were willing to do 4yrs at 36-40 mil but another team offered him 4 years and 42-45 mil I don't think he's going to take the discount to stay in Toronto because of respect or a 'special' bond with Masai.

i think he'd take somewhere in the middle if he prefers this situation which seems likely. Here he has found a home with teammates he likes, a team he leads without question. If he can get a lot more money somewhere else and get a better garanteed situation then all the power to him. But i think the options will be limited and him finding a better situation on and off the court will be tough.
