Default Legacies:

This is obviously the foundation of a core to mature and build around (and hopefully add a stud to). Given 5, 6, 7, 8? years in a Raptor uniform, what do you expect will be the legacy of this core?

Derozan - Raps leading career scorer, number up in rafters one day
Lowry - our franchise identity, held up as an example of what Raptors ball is
Amir - our statesman, always a Raptor, part of needed alumni presence
Ross - "good" career, always leaving us thinking there is one more level yet
JV - scrappier than we've seen, bad-ass reputation, top 3 C at peak

Patman? TBD
General Grievous? TBD
Loco? TBD

I can't believe I agree with you about putting Derozans number in the rafters.

It's (hopefully) still so early in his career though.

When it's all said and done I think DeMar will end up being the greatest player in franchise history. And as much as I hate having to admit it, it'll be because of the premature, universally panned contract BC gave to him.

DeMar's team is better positioned for long-term playoff success than any other Raptor team ever. On that level he could leave a really unique legacy here as not only the guy who took this team the furthest in the playoffs, but also as the guy who causes the strongest emotional response from fans for a number of reasons.

In terms of the best player and overall impact on the franchise though, I'm still in the Vince Carter camp.

If BC had waited for RFA, he would have ended up with the same length contract, possibly for a little more or a good bit less per year. If he had actually locked him into the contract instead of giving him a player option, it would have certainly helped with building a team around him. As it is, by the time the team is really making noise, he'll be on a new contract anyway.

I give zero credit to BC for signing him to this deal - anyone could have signed him to this deal, it was a complete win for DeRozan.

Yup, our team's history being what it is may also contribute to DD ultimately being placed on a pedestal and some may end up having a problem with that, but I think it's likely we are in for an extended playoff run with this core. That would make it our first graduating class. The others dropped out.

I'd hate to give out an "A" for effort. But that wouldn't apply in this case. Whatever DD gets, he'll earn through hard work. He's durable as an Abrams tank and quietly bleeds Raptor red.
