Just heard this on the Fan590 via Doug Smith. Not sure what the percentage is but jesus, really? They don't get enough for tickets as it is?

That's ridiculous, the only Toronto team that is justified to do that is the Jays.

I think a small 5-10% bump for Raps tickets is okay, but Leafs tickets are really really expensive as they stands.

Especially considering that their tickets are by far the cheapest of the three.

If they go under .500 again with these raised prices, people should boycott this shit.

It's 2.5%.

Quote:
The cost of being a winter sports fan of Toronto teams is going up.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment will hike ticket prices for the Raptors and Maple Leafs by about 2.5 per cent across the board starting for the 2013-14 seasons.

Calling it a “cost of living” increase, MLSE president and chief operating officer Tom Anselmi said the cost hike reflects increased costs to the monolithic sports organization.

“Our costs have gone up dramatically,” he said in a telephone interview. “Players salaries, operating costs, league costs . . . in the case of the Raptors, our pricing has gone backwards in the last few years.”
Quote:
In 2011, the Raptors dropped lower bowl season seats by 5 to 30 per cent, while upper bowl tickets fell by 10 to 40 per cent.

“We just recognized then that our ticket prices had crept up,” said Anselmi.

I heard that for Leaf tickets the hike ranges from 1$ to 17$

Raptors tickets go up .30$ to 14$

10% is not a small bump

2% a year is justified to keep up with rising costs and inflation but 10% is for a team that just won a championship (what they Heat did this season).

Remind me to never run a business. It'll probably crash and burn.

You are obviously not an economics student.

What determines ticket prices? What other teams charge? What the basketball team charges? Cost of a movie?

NO! Only one factor dictates what ticket prices are set at. What fans are willing to pay.
What are Leaf fans willing to pay for season seats? Average 3-4 times more than most teams AND they have to buy Raptor season seats as well..as a kind of a tax. AND THERE IS STILL A WAITING LIST TO BUY THEM!!

Leafs should keep doubling their prices (or at least 15% every year) until people stop paying. No telling how much that would be.

Raptors need to be careful. They raised their prices considerably for the hot games (Heat, Lakers, OKC) and they found that people are unwilling to pay that much and had to drop them. A lot of the sell outs were the cheap Friday and Sunday family fun days.

2.5% is not killer. My $2200 seats will be $2255. I would have a problem at 5%and up.

Raptorman.... just be thankful that we didn't get Lin here lol or Nash.... can you imagine what prices would have been then?

I agree with you on the Leafs thing though. If I were MLSE I'd be charging $200+ for the cheapest ticket. I'm sure people would still pay.

the Leafs should be jacking up their costs annually until they finally reach that breaking point because there's really no point in sight

thing is they haven't done it for 2 percent a year. they haven't done it the past couple seasons so they can do 10 percent and still call it an inflationary rise. most finished goods or services don't raise their prices often because consumers would be outraged at buying a bottle of toothpaste for one price one week and a slightly different one the next. consistency helps keep customers. also changing it often would mean a changing of many advertisements, labels, etc, costing a fortune. so it's better for business to do it once every couple of years in a larger figure, than as price incrementally rises.

hence why we're seeing numbers from 4-17 dollar increase being thrown around. our inflation this year wasn't actually 10 percent, but I bet you if you checked over the past few years and added it up, it'd amount to around that.

this folks is what a 97 in economics shows you
