Default Latest Chris Bosh quote....

Say what you will.

This is from an ESPN article today.

This say's something to me, and not something I really like;

"After all these years... Just 24 hrs left..... Wow. I'm getting anxious," Bosh wrote.

After all these years? Really?

It's not just Bosh, it's the NBA, I'm tired of these guys. Say what you will about Hockey players, but for the most part, they still get it. NBA players are fucking whack.

Doug Smith summed it up perfectly today in his rant below, some of you, will recognize this, as I stated the same myself, because I am smart;

You know what?

I’ve been kind of hinting at this for the past little while but since the day’s here, I want to make this point:

This sucks.

This whole idea that two or three or four free agents can get together and conspire to become teammates, demand whatever they can get from their existing teams so they can go and play together violates much that is right with sports.

The heart of sports needs to be competition:

“I’m better than you, I make my team better than yours, we play hard, we play fair and may the best man win.”

The heart of sports should not be:

“I’m not quite as good without you, it’s easier to join you rather than try to beat you and, to hell with making my own way in this world, I’m taking the easiest possible way out.”

I guess it’s simply a sign of the times and I know it’s business first and all that blather. I understand that players have earned and negotiated this right to determine their future and all the power to them for having done that.

But, and this is the big but, this smacks of taking the easy way out and that’s not what I want from the highest-paid players on my team.

I want them to be leaders not followers, I want them to forge their own way, not sit around some posh hotel lounge and say, “hey, if you go here and I go here, we can win.” I want them to say: “I’m going here and my team’s going to beat your team.”

Way back in the day, there is no way in the world that two or three of the top players would ever, ever, ever consider going to join someone else. It wasn’t the way the very best did things.

Now, maybe LeBron goes to New Jersey, Bosh goes to Chicago and Wade stays in Miami and all this palaver of the past few months will have been nothing more than an exercise in futility and frustrating. But I doubt it.

I’m not going to get that, I don’t think.

And that’s too bad.

I think you’ll see at least two of ‘em conspire to join each other somewhere, maybe three, and we can all sit around hoping against hope that it doesn’t work out for some reason or another.

End o’ rant.

Say what you will. it is what it is, and it isn't a debate, it's right out in the open to see. It's a sad commentary.

SJ, it's the Raptors who chose to appoint Bosh their franchise player, just like they did with Carter before him. The fact is that neither of those guys had what it takes to be a franchise player.

Is that what he's getting at though?

LeBron and Wade have clearly proven themselves to be franchise guys, and they're going about this free agency process exactly how Mr. Non-Franchise player is.

For the record I co-sign your rant 1000%.

the legacy of these players, especially lebron, will forever be tainted if they actually do sign with one another. for a player like bosh, it doesnt matter. wade and lebron, two players who could possibly be forever recognized in the history of the NBA, should really think about this.

I don't see the difference between the celtics make moves to get 3 allstars to play together & lbj cb4 & wade getting together in free agency?

It's just viewed deferently because team gm's aren't involved...

three aging all-stars. not 3 of the top ten players in the league who are just reaching their prime.

KG, Allen and Pierce didn't hold teams hostage. CB, Bosh and Wade have monopolized the whole NBA with this garbage.

Personally I think it could end up being good for the competitive fire in the league. Everyone is going to want to give the Miami Starshow a good beatdown.

somebody needs to put together a bad boys team or an old school knicks team and just play them physical as hell. throw bodies around, take suspensions and show the starshow the they don't give a flying fuck about anything but playing as tough as possible against them.

can we sign oak?

Don't want Beasley and Chicago isn't offering Noah. Teams want to get rich by offering garbage. Scratch off NY off the list (hate David Lee). I know there are more teams, but Toronto has gotta a young player they can build around:

NJ: Lopez or Favors
Houston: Aaron Brooks
OKC: Green, James Harden or Maynor
Portland: Oden, Nicolas Batum

I was just talkin bout that with friends, I would love for that to happen

this is why I like NFL and NHL, players don't hold teams hostage and leave the league in uncertainty for a long period of time

and the C's traded for KG and Ray, the teams they left didn't end up empty handed

That's pretty sad when before he started playing he was already 1/10th of the way there (99mil Nike contract before being drafted).

Also isn't Tiger Woods already way past 1 billion?

I totally agree that NBA needs to check itself around the player's ability to choose their own destiny. It's sad that they can basically opt out of trades and go back to their old team as an example. Loyalty is almost a lost value.

Just out of curiosity.... if YOU were a star athlete just entering your prime would you rather waste your entire career playing with garbage teammates, trying to carry the entire team by yourself?

Or would you be smart and try to team up with another great player so that you'd at least have a CHANCE to compete for a title?

Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant were VERY lucky to be drafted to teams with strong ownership and good GMs.... teams that KNEW how to build around good players.

Not every player is that lucky.

I say good for them. The GMs of their former teams have no one to blame but themselves.

I think most of you completely miss the point I'm making.

And to be honest.

TORAP.

I know who I am, and I would rather fight to the death and lose than give in to another player and stack a team.

I never played on a stacked team in my life, but I was on a few under dog winners.

Oh what a feeling

"Stacked team"?

No one's talking about making an all-star team... or Team USA....

They're talking about 2 guys teaming up.

And you, mr friend, are free to play on any underdog team that you want.... your situation is a LITTLE different than those guys' lol...

When was the last time that a true "underdog" won an NBA title?
