Last Roster Spot

With the season coming soon, the Raptors have one roster spot remaining though I believe that will not be the only move Colangelo makes. What do you think Colangelo will pull out of his magic hat to add finishing touches on the new Raptors?

Jnorris32 08-12-2009 07:43 PM

Some player out of Europe that is a project player. Or something like that, I rated the off season a B cause you would need 2 all stars for an A rating.

But yeah, he'll still surprise us.

rapsdabest 08-12-2009 08:31 PM

The raptors have a prospect from Europe that's described as atough, gritty small forward. Giorgis Printezis, search him up.

sixel 08-12-2009 08:37 PM

I think he will let that spot open in case of an injury

Yeah, but it has also been said that he is not near NBA ready. I don't know about you, but I would prefer someone with more experience for our last roster spot.

I think first off that this offseason is easily an A.

Secondly, i think one or both Ukic/Douby will one way or another be gone at the start of training camp and then BC will get a SF/PF to round out the roster possibly only having a 14 man roster and see if any invitees to training camp can impress.

I think BC wants to keep Ukic to develop him and I doubt hell be gone. If anyone will be leaving it's Douby.
And about Printsezas, though he may not be NBA ready skill wise, he has a lot of hustle and plays hard and would be a good garbage time guy. Or we could always get Joey G back.

Develop uKic for what? We have three guys ahead of him with Jose/Jack being signed for the next 4-5yrs.

raptorsfan345 08-12-2009 09:02 PM

BC should find a way to trade Ukic and Banks. even if its for two second rounders i would take it to free up some cap space.

rapsdabest 08-12-2009 09:09 PM

"Colangelo also raised the possibility of finding a new home for point guard Roko Ukic, although the GM and coach Jay Triano both think Ukic could benefit from a season playing sporadically as the third stringer rather than being force-fed minutes as he was last season."
From TheStar.com | NBA | New Raptor Jack spreads generosity around
I think theres a better chance of Douby being traded.

That would be nice, but no team has the $$ or the stomach to take on two scrubs for a couple draft picks. But it would be amazing if he can.

Jose/Jack/Beli is a much better, tighter rotation. Those two simply won't play on this team and are 13th/14th on the depth chart on this team. Even POB is ahead of them.

rapsdabest 08-12-2009 09:12 PM

Ukic is very explosive, if we develop his shot, he can be very dangerous.
2008-09 Statistics: Roko Ukic
PPG 4.2 RPG 1.00 APG 2.1
Jose Calderon rookie season
2.2 rebs 4.5 asts 5.5 pts
Not much of a difference.

First of all Roko isn't explosive, secondly this constant comparison to Jose is beyond silly.

Jose's stats prior to his Rookie season were good and he was a good shooter in Europe, and Roko has never been a good shooter or a good ball handler. Jose's Rookie season stats were mainly due to a lack of confidence and Roko's season is pretty much what he's always shown.

He's a weak player. 5 ppg and 2 rpg game in intl competition. Not even remotely close to NBA ready. Last Euro team didn't even renew his contract.

B-RAD 08-12-2009 09:25 PM

a better question is if marbury is going to be signed by a team anywhere. that includes outside the nba. i'm sure that olympiakos has interest in him as they do for just about every nba player.

Gurk 08-12-2009 11:33 PM

Whoever voted B should be declared as a person that hates this team. How do ou not like what's been done

Take a look at a couple more negative people here and you'll probably have your answer. :mf_wink:

I'm surprised so many people consider this offseason an A

DuCa00795 08-13-2009 09:34 AM

Yeah, this season has looked excellent, but when we look at our current assets, compared to last season’s assets, it's quite debatable to rate this offseason an A. We have to consider what we lost -

Shawn Marion - Defence, Rebounding
Kapono - Shooting off the bench
Parker - Shooting and defence
Humphries - Rebounding off the bench
Jawaii - Prospect

Possibly Graham and/or Pops (even though he was only here at the end a lot of people still want him back.)

Here's what he gained -

Turk - Offence, leadership, clutch
Evans - Rebounding, Toughness
Rasho - Rebounding, Post defence
Wright - Defence
Jack - Spark off the bench, Offence, Defence
DeRozan - Well he can jump really high...
Bellinelli - instant offence, inconsistency though

So if we break down last season compared to this season, it's obvious we have upgraded. It becomes hard to settle on this season compared to last season because of all the changes we had during the season. Jose injured, Jow being Jow and getting traded, multiple signings etc. But all in all I could give this offseason a B because we had to give up a lot to obtain pieces.

Cheers
