Default Landry Fields deal sets the tone for other free agents.

People might not understand the repercussions this deal causes, but when the time for contract extensions for guys like Bayless/etc comes they will ask for a big pie. When we're looking for guys to add in the offseason, for decent, good players this will be the starting point of every negotiation. It makes it that much more tougher to acquire good pieces or resign key players.

Yea pretty much, I mean we have to overpay for players I get that, but these aren't the players we should be overpaying for ! All these threads come down to Fuck BC.

the players we should be overpaying for aren't interested even if overpayed. It's not a Fuck BC scenario, it's more that Toronto isn't even on the map.

The only way for Toronto to get on the map is to get someone decent who has the potential to become a star and pay them big. Not Amir Johnson or Landry Fields.

agreed..... but it's likely through trade or draft, and you won't be trading for one with stiffs like Ed Davis, Sonny Weems or Linus Kleiza.... we just don't have much to offer.

Bro, I agree with you that BC needs to go but historically the Raptors organization has always overpaid for average or slightly above average talent. You can look to the early '00s when we had Alvin Williams, JYD & Antonio Davis on bad contracts.

It is going to be exceptionally hard to break free from the 'culture' of overpaying for marginal talent but it needs to be done at some stage.

We wont have to overpay once we actually win. But we havent won in so damn long that we have to overpay. Pretty simple.

Sacramento was the shithole of the 90s, then they made a few moves, got their star player, and built around him beautifully and players didn't mind playing there because they had an exciting winning team. The key is getting the star player to build around and start winning. Easier said than done. Hopefully Valanciunius is that guy.

I would have signed mayo instead of overpaying for fields. I just hope his free throw shooting is not below 60 percent again.

When Ed Davis or sonny Weems scored 40+ points?

How many times in Euroleague weems scored 20+ points? Not to mention 19 in 6 minutes

Linas Kleiza is much better player than those 2 are, were or ever be. Do not forget he hasn't played yet fully healthy in Toronto.
I don't say he's a superstar caliber, but you never gave him enough credit.
Dont have the quote next to me, but I was uber mad when saw one of the posters saying Raptors should amnesty Kleiza. Come on... Those are the posts you need to delete, not mine where I predict Raptors fans falling in love with Kleiza in the nearest future :P

Totally agree with winning. We have had losing record the last couple of years and who wants to play with Bargnani. JO welcomed the trade to TO after the the team made two straight playoff appearances and a admitted to excited to play alongside Bosh. Minnesota Wild had to sign two good players to ludricous contracts because they were a losing organization. No star player plus losing atmoshpehere = overpay free agents.

Yeah, a lot more teams more appealing than Toronto right now. But the Celtics already used their mid level on Terry so we would have the upper hand in that we can offer him a lot more.

agreed but once the celtics are interested he's not even considering toronto. If the celtics doesn't work out it will be because another team has come in. Conclusion, we will not get mayo.

it doesn't really matter how much we sign a certain player for, every year the price is different and every position demands a different price too
the price is really based upon what all the teams are willing to pay that certain year, its not based upon the fact that 1 player got this much so all over similar players must get similar amounts

Kleiza is actually sick.

Gonna be good to see him 100% healthy this year hopefully. He's just nasty.
