there is no hype, all the Raptors are saying that he is a high energy big with some decent post moves,

if you watched the press conference at the end of the season they were saying we have to give him time to get use to the rules

to me there isn't any over hyping accept over reacting raptor fans who think they are, and the media in toronto always take it one step to far, if toronto had a normal media base none of these problems would occur,

the media is crazy, they over react more than the fans

the facts are he is a 5th overall pick, whenever your selected that high there is going to pressure media, fans and management wise, thats just the game

personally i'm not worried at all, with ed davis, amir johnson, and signing gray back, i'm pretty sure jonas will get his time to develop,

This is Toronto. it's inevitable that he will be seen by some as the guy who needs to carry the team....as soon as he lands here.

The best thing they can do is not start him for his first few games. That sends a message at the get-go that he is a work in progress, even if he plays 30 minutes a game.

He's getting wayyyyyyyyyyyyy overblown.

Jonas was never ever projected to be a star prospect. Basically his appeal has always been that he'll rebound, work hard and score efficiently around the basket at the rarest position to fill (C).

Last year's draft was one of the worst ever to be picking #5 because of how heavily things fell off after the 1st couple picks (and after Williams play this year, it's more like "after the 1st pick"). The description I used is 2 top 3 picks and 15 #10 picks in a row. It's why Kawhi Leonard went 15 and Jan Vesely 6 despite being the same type of prospect. Wizards apparently were pretty close to taking Kawhi 6 and he fell all the way to 15.

I expect rebounding and energy and a player who can log C minutes. Basically like Amir with 2 blocks a game and better post D. That's a solid pick at #5 considering how Williams, Kanter, Thompson, Vesely, Kemba, Biyombo and Knight have played (like #9/#10 picks).

I agree with your analysis of JonasV. He is like Amir except bigger, younger, taller, with more post moves, a higher ceiling. I think JonasV's first season will be about 10-11 ppg, about 7 rpg, 1.5-2 bpg in about 30 mpg.

The Amir comparison is valid, but there's at least one big difference, and it's what I think is going to make Jonas a star player.

JV gets to the line A LOT, and when he gets there he hits at almost 90%.

That combination of aggressive post play, and the ability to knock down free throws, is a deadly combination on offense, and it's what will make JV a star (after he gets the respect of the refs, maybe year 2 or 3, BUT if he plays well in the Olympics the refs will know him and he could be getting calls his rookie year).

Say what you want to say about him but he has three factors that make any player success in the league. Length, active and basketball iq

My feelings exactly.
I'm glad we have him, but expecting him to be a Star is really getting ahead of fair expectations. It takes big men a while to learn their trade ... he has the basic tools and what I like most ... he has great work ethic and seems to have a team oriented approach. Glad we have him ... now lets give the guy a chance.

Define star, If it is like one of the top 5 centers in the league in 5 years than me

Edit: I see that it could happen, because we don't have so many good true centers in the league

Way to swing that pendulum all the way to the opposite side.
