Arrow Koreen: Does hot run mean Raptors are for real?

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors have won six of their last seven games, but it is hard to know if thatís a reflection of improved play or of the teamís cushy schedule.

Has the Raptorsí defence improved, or did playing offensively inept teams like New jersey and Detroit make them look better? Is guard Sonny Weems deserving of extra minutes, or has weak competition made him look more effective than he actually is?

Then there is the biggest question of all: Are the Raptors a better team with Jarrett Jack starting at point guard instead of Jose Calderon?

Calderon, whoís missed 12 of the teamís last 13 games due to a hip injury, is expected to return to the lineup Wednesday when the Raptors play at Orlando. The odds are, with Calderon trying to find his game form, Jack will keep his starting role, at least for the three games this week.

agreed, ten fold.

media and fans...... hilarious bunch really.

If you play and lose to the best teams, it's ok, they say, "toronto is a decent team, they had a terrible schedule to start the year and had 9 new guys, it may takes a few months to gel and get the ship righted".

So, a few months later, the tough schedule is behind them. two major starters out with injury, a record of one game under .500, and having just gone 6/7 against an average schedule when you factor in all wins and losses of all teams they played, and what do you get????

Not the media saying "congrats to Triano and the boys for toughing it out and gelling, they are right where they wanted to be".

Nope.

You get, "this team hasn't proved shit, they teams they beat are shitty"

You cant win in sports.

Its how it works.

Clarification. You can't win with the fans and media in sports Ask the members of the team and they'll say they're improving. They'll admit they must prove it against some top teams but they'll say they're coming together and in a decent position now.

It's the media and fans that must pick everything apart in order to sleep better at night.

You have to keep on winning, and shutting people up....

I think the media is starting to notice the Raptors

+ 38947395863590836503896503905.

With teams like BOS, ATL DEN and ORL struggling and losing against "weak teams" I think that people should start to give this team some credit and notice that it's not as EASY as they might think it is.

It's not a GIVEN that you're going to beat CHI or IND or NJ or MIN.... you have to go out there and take care of business and make SURE that it happens. If you don't, you get beat.

This Raptor team that we've seen over the past 2 weeks or so has looked much more professional than they have all season.

In short, YES, this team has improved since the big "meeting".

Does that mean that they're going to win every game from here on out?

No.

Does that mean that they won't have hiccups every so often and lose to a team that they shouldn't?

No.

But this is definitely a team that we can root for and be proud of.

Root for? Of course, they are our home team. It's like rooting for your children to succeed, even if you suspect deep down it's pointless.

Be proud of? That's a slightly different story. Honestly, at the moment, I can't clearly see a path from where we are to the championship-contending team without drastic changes to the makeup of the roster. And that bugs me. That, and defence and rebounding.

Stop crying. Journalists are supposed to ask questions, put things in perspective, write stories day in day out, not congratulate some coach or team for gelling for crying out loud.

I would have given anything to have seen the last two games a year ago. That's for real.

One step at a time Mike.... let us get to 50 wins and the 2nd round of the playoffs first before we start talking about championship tweaks.
