Arrow Koreen: Daily Injury Update

Quote:
The kids are not all right. Take it from Sonny Weems, one of those kids.

Weems has been nursing back spasms since the afternoon of Dec. 17. The Toronto Raptors swingman thought it was an injury that would only keep him out of action for a few days at most.

More than two weeks later, he is still out, and he will miss the next three games as well. That will mean Weems will miss at least an even 10 games.

Weems is blaming himself a bit, as he has never really paid attention to core strength.

“Especially young players, guys around my age, we really don’t pay attention to stretching. We think it’s all just b.s.,” Weems said at the Raptors practice on Monday. “It’s very important. You see what I’ve had to go through. It’s something I will take heed to.”

Quote:
The now-daily Raptors injury update goes as such: Weems, Peja Stojakovic, who has a swollen knee, and Reggie Evans, with a broken foot, will not travel with the team on their three-game road trip that will take them to Chicago, Cleveland and Boston.

Jose Calderon, who has a sprained right foot now in addition to his left foot problem, will travel, but is questionable to play Tuesday against the Bulls. Jerryd Bayless, with a sprained ankle of his own, will travel and is likely to play. Andrea Bargnani has mostly recovered from his calf injury, and is expected to play in all three games.

Oh, and Amir Johnson’s wonky back kept him out of practice on Monday, but it should not stop him from playing on Tuesday.

Man, Amir Johnson is a beast. Leo Rautins said it best: Doesn't complain, grimace or let anyone know he's hurting. He just goes out there and plays. And he still got a double-double the other game. I'm glad they locked him up.

The same can be said about Bayless. He didn't grimace or complain. I liked how he still wanted to play in Houston even though he knew he wasn't 100%. He wanted to give Jose some rest and help his team. Good signing and trade by BC.

All he did was grimace in Dallas. However, I'm not taking anything way from him, you can tell he was in a lot of pain. He does have a lot of heart.

This shows how weak the East is. We're 11 games under .500, but only 3 games out of the 8-seed.

I don't like the NFL, but I found this fact quite amusing - The Seattle Seahawks became the first sub .500 team to win a division (at 7-9) since the 1976–77 St.Louis Blues, who won their division while finishing five games below .500.

Good to know about Weems' back problems being possibly caused by weak core strength. He's young enough to learn a valuable lesson from this, and definitely fit enough to correct it. This is the perfect kind of write-off season for him to leran something and come back stronger for it. Hopefully he passes these tips off to DeMar too!

ha. i actually forgot that Peja was on the team. that swollen knee is the best thing to happen to his tenure as a raptor.

And i know that Reggie Evans has a lot of fans, but i hope he doesn't rush back from his injury either. take your sweet time Reggie. He's totally a moot point in my eyes.
