Knicks Knicks Going After Bosh in 2010?

Donnie Walsh has Bosh set in his sights too for the summer of 2010. Could you imagine if Bosh became a Knick? I think he'd be more hated than if Sundin became a Hab or an Ottawa Senator.

Quote:

But Walsh is a pragmatist, and he knows the days of Dick Barnett are not coming back. “Every year you look up, and those are the guys that do it—Kobe or Shaq or Duncan or Garnett,” he says. “Or a kid coming up like Greg Oden. You’d love to have a chance to get a guy like him. But they come around once every fifteen, twenty years.”

He doesn’t have that long to wait, yet he is determined not to conduct a fire sale to jump-start the team. Instead, Walsh is focused on getting the Knicks below the salary cap and freeing up money to spend on new talent—just not immediately. “I’m not trying to get the cap down by the end of this season, or by the end of next year,” Walsh says. “I’m trying to get it down two years from now, in 2010.”

Which also happens to be the year that the NBA’s transcendent young superstar, LeBron James, becomes a free agent. Pure coincidence, Walsh says. Rival G.M.’s see a conspiracy in the making, however, in which the NBA subtly steers James to the league’s flagship team. “Aw, they’re just paranoid,” Walsh says with a laugh. “You know what’s interesting to me? What year do you think [Chris Bosh] is a free agent?” The gifted Toronto Raptors forward also hits the market in 2010. “Yes,” Walsh says. “And that kid’s a great player. But nobody talks about him. It’s all ‘Oh, you’ve got to get LeBron!’ Look, I understand that. But you look at that free-agent class, and there’s a lot of really good players in it.”

Now everybody gonna get Bosh.......

edit: I do agree that everyone is talking about Bron, Wade Bosh etc.

People seem to forget sometimes that guys like Butler, Chandler, Yao and Melo all can become free agents and JJ, JHo, McGrady, Stephen Jackson, Amir Johnson, TJ, Mike Miller, Manu ......are all free agents

The team who will make the biggest splash in 2010 is going after 1 or 2 of the lesser guys immediately(BC trademark) and not worry abou the big guns. Lebron would make any team a contender, but adding 2 or 3 guys to a roster would make them champions.

Imagine JJ, Miller, Bosh, Jose and Bargs as a core with someone like Dampier as a backup big, Kaps Ukic Moon backup guards........

Should this surprise anyone? Bosh will be a FA. He'll be considered a "franchise" big by many teams. How many of those grow on trees? Hell, if you're a team with cap space and you DON'T target him, I think you're a GM who should then be fired immediately.

Think that the first thing teams will try to do is signing his own stars, if the guys have hopes on their teams and have a fair offert from them, there would be few movements IMO.

Bosh isn't stupid enough to go to the Knicks if they DON'T get LEBRON. It is like just asking to be the whipping boy on the New York Media. Phil Jackson was going to sign Bosh his last contract too. In the end he paid a fine and Bosh is still a Raptor.

I don't know Dino ... Bosh seems to relish the spotlight and what better place to be to get noticed than the "Big Apple".

The dude is on the tonight show in the off-season, and in the meantime he could get plenty of notice by winning in the playoffs and having a shorter off-season.

The entire FA class two years down the road thing shows that the game needs new life. I hope it finds some real, authentic excitement before 2010.

But he has been able to get that spotlight being here in Toronto. Go ask Vince Carter what it has done for him by being in the New York Area for his profile and career. Not that much. If all Knick Fans want Lebron and they get something less than that it is not going to make whoever that guy is Mr. Popular.

I just don't see Bosh making a move to another team unless things with Raptors become a horrible situation. He has been on Jay Leno, got gigs on NBA TV and uses You Tube as ways to promote himself. I don't think he needs to be in a major market to build up his profile.

Also when you look at where the economy is at. Sports stars in general will have far less chances to make the big bucks in Ads. Only the truly elite like Lebron and a few others are going to be able to get the National ads that being in New York could bring.

I Just don't see this being legit at this time. It has the same amount of merit that Bosh going to the Magic to play against Dwight Howard at Madden every day after practice with the Magic.

exhibit A provided by Stein in his power rankings -

Funny old game, isn't it? You can go to Duke, go No. 1 overall in the draft, play in major media markets with the Bulls and Clips . . . and you can still, as Elton Brand would tell you, find a whole new level of scrutiny in Philly.
Bosh knows he has it good here, and if it gets better at all, then he'll stay.

w/e guys think of him not needing a big market, check out jersey sales, he isnt even close to being upper tier nba commodity he could be in the states, and dont play that "he has all of canada behind him" card, because Vince was big til he won the dunk contest and had all of America behind him.

I am talking about it only cause it is being offered as a topic but I agree with you 2010 is a long way off yet and all of these things can change.

But the natives get restless.

Bosh is just not a "sexy" player, therefore jersey sales will never be amungst the tops.

I mean comeon, Kobe, Bron, Wade, Shaq, Mello, Iverson .....Bosh.....

He's a geek and would never be a top teir commodity in the states either. I mean I love the guy but his fame came from doing youtube vids etc, not gonna change, dont matter where he lives.

The natives around these here parts are always restless when it comes to keeping big name basketball players.

I can still vividly remember endless discussions on ESPON boards around T-Mac's departure (including ACCFan's attempt to organize boycotting of Adidas products) and then around Vince's and Bosh's extensions. The sad truth is that most of Toronto fans suffer from a justifiable inferiority complex when it comes to NBA basketball, even though I believe the perception of this city by the NBAers has changed quite a bit over the years.

Ahh those were days .... for shits & giggles we should get everyone who posted there back when to change their names here for the next month or so to their original ESPN usernames.

Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised to see that teabags has been a member here for awhile now.

I was a HUGE lurker back then. I remember ACCfan being very outspoken, or at least it seemed that way. And teabags and TORaptor always going at it as well.

I was only a kid then, probably 15 or so? Didn't post much either.

Teabags and his endearing personality actually appeared closer to the end, way after T-Mac and VC sagas were over one way or another.

And Wu, there is no way in hell you are either of those shmucks, although Redman did improve quite a bit over the later portion of his tenure. Almo was... well... not quite unlike Gurkang.

And we mustn't forget History2b, the man who managed to get the original Mike_Toronto banned from ESPN (that nick is still banned, BTW, I am checking it every month or so).
