Kleiza close to returning to the court?

The lockout is close to bringing another NBA player back to Europe, as Lithuanian forward Linas Kleiza is reported to be on the verge of joining Lietuvos Rytas, where he would join a potential Toronto Raptors teammate Jonas Valanciunas, who was drafted by the Canadian club in this year’s NBA Draft. According to BTV Television, the 26-year-old Lithuanian star, who is recovering from a knee injury, would join the Lithuanian League (LKL) runners-up once fully healthy. After undergoing surgery in the beginning of February, the initial recovery time was said to be between nine and twelve months. lithuaniabasketball.com

Nice some good news for a change...

I'm going to start PVRing NCAA & Euro games now.

ValanciunasFanboy 11-16-2011 03:48 PM

Kleiza denied it. It would seem a stupid move from $ perspective. Rytas can't afford him. Unless he comes for a few hundred k. Which would make no sense, since any new injury would put his NBA contract at risk.
Besides, why would he come to Rytas anyway? It's not a Euroleague team. Just to hang out with a 19 year old Jonas? Yeah...

As title says :) It seems that for the rest of lockout (likely - this season) Kleiza will play either for Kaunas "Zalgiris" or Vilnius "Lietuvos rytas". If he will play for Zalgiris - he will play togeather with Sonny Weems. If he will play for "Lietuvos rytas" - he will play with Jonas.

Best wishes,
DeS

I wonder, how well do you guys think the Raptors would do playing against European teams. To be honest, we'd still probably be crap. :p

You'd be ahead on talent. How much the rules would hurt you, that's another question. A lot of zone, smaller court, hand checking, goal tending, way fewer game breaks, it all adds ups.

The easiest way to win Euroleague games right now is by bringing in good size.
Euroleague is drained of great 4-5s right now. All those NBA drafts took their toll.
3-4 NBA tweeners have amazing impact too.
The hardest way - through guards, especially non-shooters. I wouldn't build the game plan around DeMar with those rules. Imo, it'd be a lot about Amir and Ed Davis taking over. Can they do that, and if not, can Bargs take advantage of weaker bigs inside; judging by some EuroBasket games, I'd say it's likely.

Anyway, there's enough talent to go unbeaten. It would just have to be a very different game plan. Amir, Bargs and Barbosa (or Kleiza if healthy) carrying the main load, imo.

Some cropped info in english:

Regarding Raptors playing against European teams - i think they would do fine. There are some 6 teams which would be hard to break and hard to win against, but... that's it. Just mho.

I agree.

this is good news for the raptors. If he can get some practice/game time in before (if this season ever actually starts) or next year, this is only good news for this team. Guy was killing it in the preseason and before he got injured last year, and it was a shame we lost him so early in the season

Chiggmo 11-23-2011 02:01 PM

I thought he was hurt...

Did they not say he would only be able to play a year after the surgery, which happened this year

I think the estimate was 9 months of recovery time, and he had the surgery in February. So the timing makes perfect sense.

Akerlyn 11-23-2011 04:06 PM

I can't wait to see Linas on the court. :police:

Akerlyn 11-23-2011 04:07 PM

Cartmen 11-26-2011 08:52 AM
