I was talking to a friend last night about the Peja deal and the potential cap space it opens up and we both realized that Perkins is a FA.
Now, a lot of teams are banking that with the new CBA they'll be able to cut salary (not guaranteed) so right now Toronto is in a nice position to make a run at him. Even if there are teams out there that have additional space I still think Toronto NEEDS to make a solid run at him. He'd address everything this team lacks. Interior defense, rebounding, toughness. Add into it, his experience with Boston, playing in the finals and being underrated offensively I'd LOVE for him to be here. If he's healthy, it's a no brainer. If we're committed to building with Andrea then we need to get him. If we overpay then so be it. Having a front court with : C: Perkins/Amir PF: Andrea/Evans (yes, he needs to be resigned to a lesser deal.) Defensively we'd be solid with that group and offensively as well. |

I wouldn't re-sign Evans. In your scenario we would have Bargnani playing 35+mpg at PF and have Amir and Davis behind him. If we get a Perkins type Center Evans is pointless.

A guy that provides some continuity, on a veteran deal to provide veteran leadership on and off the court in a reduced playing role.
Yup, sounds pointless to me. |

I want to see how he comes back off of the injury. I like Perkins a lot, think he is a hard working guy and does the things required of a centre.
It will come down to cost and if he wants to play here. Does anyone know how many of Bostons bigs are back next year? I can't see them paying him big bucks if they still have Davis, Garnett, O'neal and O'neal on contract. |

I really like Evans a lot, but why would he take Vet min. Here and barely play when he can probably get the same or more somewhere else and actually play? I don't he thinks of himself as a cheerleader.

You think he's going to get more than the vet min elsewhere? Maybe he likes it here... maybe he's grateful for the opportunity to play..... maybe he likes his role on this team.... who knows. But I can't see him getting more than the vet min. elsewhere.

I dunno man, he's a terrible liability on the offensive end, but can still be a top 10, maybe even top 5 rebounder in the league. High scoring teams such as New York, Phoenix, San Antonio can use a one-dimensional kind of player like Reggie.

No way Boston is giving up Perkins. With the Big 3, the time to win is now! Boston was up 3 games to 2 with the Lakers in the Finals, Perkins went down, and the Lakers win the next two. Yes they have Shaq and JO now, but I see Boston giving away these 2 players before they give up on Perkins.

SA wouldn't pay him more than the min with D. Blair there. Amare and Reggie... doesn't seem like a winning combo. Phoenix? Maybe, but I just don't see many teams overpaying him when he's shown to be a limited minutes player. Yes he can rebound, but let's not overstate his value. Look at all of the minimums handed out to players of his tenure. I just see it as a good fit for him, and unlikely he garners more money elsewhere. Good on him if he does.
