Default Is Kapono still worth it?

Read Doug's blog this morning and he had a little jab at Sam and Kapono. Made me come back to the question I brought up prior to this season and that being did we overpay to acquire Kapono's services? One-dimensional at best in my opinion.

My thought:

Oh, you mean when Jason Kaponos out there.

Kapono reminds me of Bonner. I think what he lacks in athleticism he makes up in smarts and hustle. I just wish he'd get more touches/open looks...

I like kapono, I dont think he is that one dimensional, he is not bad penetrating, I dont know he needs more minutes, but with Delfino, parker and Moon there, its difficult

is he worth it?
was he a good off season pick-up?

i gave this some serious thought about a week ago.
i remember people asked this at the start of the season and i was all for it... i loved what he brought to the team and loved his game. i thought it was a fabulous pick up and we wouldnt need MOPete.
while we still dont miss Mo at all, IMO. i really think Kapono has ZERO worth on this squad now.
sure he can hit a jumper better then most, but he never plays! he gets 5 minutes a game...
if anyone needs to get traded, its him.
his role is obsolete on this team...
Parker and Delfino do what he does, but do it better.
Moon actually can play D.

Kapono is a great shooter, but is burried on the depth chart.
unfortunately, i dont see him playing more than 10 minutes a game for the rest of the season.
we can get some value for him, but we've gotta strike while the iron's hot and trade him now.
he is not worth the price we paid for him, cause he just doesnt see enough play time.

I just don't know why we don't run specific plays for Kapono.

Delfino and Bargnani will just hoist up all of these random long distance shots. If Kapono were to attempt more i think they'd actually go in.

That's one thing I like about Delfino handling the rock. He actually looks to get Kapono shots.

he is the best shooter I have ever seen, he has the best career record in NBA history for 3 pointers, why doesnt he shoot more? And I dont see teams putting so much defensive pressure on him.

Kapono has never been a volume guy, or even close. Maybe that's just who he is. I think he doesn't want to be a one-dimensional player at all. I like how he has been talking with Bargnani a lot the last few weeks. And I would think that they could both find some real success together further down the road.

He's definitely worth it. Remember that Brent Barry didn't gel right away with the Spurs, and the same questions were asked.

Was he ever worth his salary? I think history will show we always overpaid for him; the question is will he start becoming useful again, or is he going to ride the pine more like what's happened lately?

He went on a stretch where he was getting about 10 points per game but recently it's a lot less...

We have playing time for him, he should be getting all the shots Delfino keeps taking.

The problem with Kapono is he doesnt really know where his shots are coming from especially when he doesnt play with TJ or Jose. Hes got no chance to get a shot off with Dixon in the lineup. With our offence being so predictable especially when Jose isnt aggressive, of course Kapono isnt gonna get his offence off.

You'll see his true value once TJ comes back.

This thread will turn out the same as the start delfino over moon thread a while back. We need Kapono like SA needs Barry right now.

You run a couple plays for him, he hits half his shats, we get some points off the bench. Simple ideology.

I think he'll be a valuable piece especially in the playoffs when other guys will struggle making shots. He's not ever going to be a 20ppg guy because no one would leave him open that many times in a game night in and out... he will be a momentum changer type guy. Get a key three to start a run or stop the opposition's run. He is better on defense than i figured(i figured no defense) and he's a smart player. Lose the beard and I still think it was a good signing.
