Default Kapono=Impressive

He has been our savior with his shooting but what has impresed me more is the fact that he didnt defend badly at all and he is just playing with so much confidence. Hes talking to the refs, taking hits and overall he just looks prepared for the challange the playoff are.

He has been the first 2 games, for sure. I don't know why Ford/Jose didn't exploit his hot hand more, at least until he gets tired or the opponents adjust their defense. We would have had a better chance. It's not like Kapono wasn't on the floor, so SMitch wasn't at fault there.

That was actually TJs fault. Kapono was wide open and looking at TJ who never passed him the ball. He then turned to run to the corner and then TJ threw it. Granted Kapono should have had eyes on ball but our guards seem to hold the ball a few seconds too long when someone other than Bosh is open.

I disagree...a shooter should ALWAYS have his eye on the ball. You never know when it's coming to you ..so always be ready.

it was kapono's fault to be sure, but you can see why he would do it. Everybody knows that if TJ doesn't pass in the first 2 seconds, you can forget about the ball until the last 5 seconds of the attack.

And it's not even TJ's fault for that, the type of player he is, he needs the ball a lot so he can probe and try to beat the defense. Because TJ can't shoot from long-range, he MUST drive, otherwise he's useless.

He shoots 47% from the field, I think he can do a little more than drive.

cmon, he can shoot 90% for all I care. Bynum shoots 65%, that doesn't make him a shooter. Outside 15 ft, TJ Ford shoots 35%, and that's what I mean by "long-range" ...

But it does make him a good mid-range shooter, that means he can do more than drive.

One thing I've liked about Pono in the last two games is his move where he dribbles to the corner himself and takes the shot, or fakes out the defender and does it. If he can do that more often, I expect a lot more 3s next year. It's obvious under the Smitch system that standing and waiting for the ball or getting open off a play won't work, and we don't play in transition, so yeah. Not the best place for him overall right now, but we'll see.

Speaking of TJ, I think he played a hell of a game tonight, especially in that 2nd quarter.

sure - but the thing is, he needs to get close to the basket in order to be effective, and that means he needs to probe the defense, to try to get to his sweet spot. As with Jose, he can pass the ball and stay on the outside, because somebody has to stay close to him at all times. WIth TJ (as with Arroyo), you can gamble once he gets rid of the ball. Once in a while he will make you pay, but as with Moon, most teams would first gamble and until he can prove his range, he will not get too much attention.

If only he can explain to Bargnani that he doesn't have to take 3 point shot each & every time...

Oh Im not saying that Tj is better than Calde, I love em both, but I prefer Calde. Im just saying Tj is a heck of a player. Each of them have their virtues and flaws, problem is that Tj flaws are much more costly to a team like ours.
