Kanter Doesn't Want to Come to Toronto

From BDL on Yahoo Sports:

Quote:

Turkish big man Enes Kanter is one of the more intriguing prospects in this year's draft...

To his credit, though, he seems to have a plan of attack for interviewing with his prospective employers: only visit with the ones he wants to play for. This should go great!

That's the report from ESPN's Andy Katz, via Chris Littmann on Twitter:

Interesting, @ESPNAndyKatz said Enes Kanter "stood up" Toronto, Milwaukee, Utah for interviews. Guess he won't interview with them at all.

Word is that Kanter is taken with the Wizards, the team led by his (kind of sort of) Kentucky friend John Wall(notes). Washington DC is a much larger market than any of the cities he skipped out on today, but they also may be several years away from success.

Kanter's Gambit here is pretty clear: he wants to force these teams to pass on him so that he can end up with a city and franchise he likes. It's a strategy Ricky Rubio(notes) employed in 2008 with poor results -- the Minnesota Timberwolves picked him and he has spent the last two years in Spain. Kanter can do much the same and possibly even avoid Rubio's state of limbo. Because he's not currently tied to any team, Kanter can choose to spend another year away from professional basketball and reenter the draft next season.
Sounds good to me. If he doesn't want to come, I don't want to have him.

This is a seriously unprofessional move, though. You haven't played in a year, even if you're not high on some teams you should understand that it's a privilege to be even considered by an NBA team much less a dozen of them. I don't think he's remotely shown enough talent to be pulling moves like this.

Tells a lot about his character.

powerfulpanda 05-20-2011 05:17 PM

euros were like our last resort......do we get asian players now?

Dutches 05-20-2011 05:20 PM

Awesome. I didn't want him before and I really don't want him now.

Seriously the attitude of some of the Turkish players is just unreal.

Bring on Knight or Kemba!!

carp 05-20-2011 05:22 PM

I think so too. I'm willing to bet Hedodo has something to do with this.

Pheeew, nice to hear!

Let me jump on the "GOOD"! bandwagon too!

I didnt want anything to do with this guy and I hope he falls like a rock on draft day and we bypass him. Like Givony said, with a strike, it may be 3years since he'll have played competitive ball- yet he already has this sense of entitlement. No thanks!

+1 cheers to that!

I hope he goes to Utah.

gtanev 05-20-2011 05:57 PM

We're getting Valanciunas. Deal with it guys...The kid is 19 and he's already stood his own against Kanter in national games. He is definitely worth the risk.

Fuck no! We'll take Tristan Thomas before that guy. His stock has been dropping since the allstar break. He has no moves, no strength, and at least 6-7 years away from his prime. He is the Hoffa of the draft.

Stonezz 05-20-2011 06:03 PM

Wow dude should be happy just based on the fact he has the chance to play in the NBA.

Fine with me though, didn't want him anyways

You just detailed the anti-hoffa.... or you're using the Hoffa example very poorly.

jeffb 05-20-2011 06:20 PM

Haaaaah, this makes my day. Fuck him!

I highly doubt we're taking him.
