Raptors JYD: Vince needs to apologize to the Toronto fans

Sportsnet 590 The Fan On Demand - Sportsnet.ca

-He says that Vince was tired of the city (he said "i'm quoting him when i say that"), but he needs to apologize and let everyone know where he was coming from at the time and why he left.
-This is now Demar's team
-Not sure if they sure retire Vince's jersey
-Vince going to graduation hurt our chances at winning game 7. If he was in that position, he wouldn't go to graduation.
-Talks about the impact that team had on the youth in toronto
-Masai needs to put his stamp on this team and it started with the Rudy Gay trade

Back in 03 when I was turning 40, my family wanted to get me a Raps jersey. Naturally they assumed #15. But no way. I asked for #13. JYD FTW.

Even that special didnt get us any closure. Yeeah, the Raps were a mess back then, but a player should NEVER quit on the team. Especially when the fanbase was so much behind him.

Come clean VC. Block your mothers number from your phone.

I remember one of JYD's first games in Toronto when he picked Keither Van Horns' pocket at mid-court twice in a row.

Or JYD finding out he was traded and immediately hopping into his pick up truck and driving up from Detroit the night he was traded.

Love JYD.

i love some of the revisionist history that's been happening lately. Love how Vince has been made to look almost like the victim. Thanks to Jerome for telling it like it is. like it was.

I also remember this.

Quote:
- Many Raptors quietly rolled their eyes at the antics of Williams, whose off-court self-promotion and on-court gambles entertained the fans but occasionally annoyed his teammates. One of the main eye-rollers was Davis. So now, when Davis finally gets his wish and is traded, it's ironic the Dog is nipping at his heels. Let's not overstate this -- Davis and Williams don't hate each other. But if Davis had been given his choice of players to come with him, Williams probably would not have been at the top of the list.
Quote:
Williams knows he wouldn't be in Chicago if it weren't for Antonio Davis; knows that he was the final piece that sealed the deal that sent Jalen Rose, Donyell Marshall and Lonny Baxter to the Raptors last Saturday.

Williams said yesterday that he never wanted to leave Toronto — "I made a commitment to the Raptors and I didn't foresee leaving before that commitment ended, but it's the nature of the beast" — and if he didn't have his strong Christian faith, he said he'd be really angry with Davis.

"If I didn't have faith, then yes, there would be (hard feelings). But my faith tells me the Lord wouldn't put me in a situation He didn't want me to be in, or whatever the scenario," Williams said. "My earthly sense is to blame Antonio, but you can't do that."

Williams' wife, Nikollette, is trying to find the family a place to live in Chicago. The couple's teenaged daughter is in high school in Toronto and that makes the situation more difficult. They're also reluctant to leave the city because their two youngest were born in Canada, Williams says reflectively.

Jerome Williams used his jersey to wipe the sweat off his face and there, peeping over the waistband of his black Bulls practice shorts, was an unmistakable, vivid strip of purple.

Raptor purple. Williams was traded, tossed from the fold, told he was expendable and yet he still wears his Raptor shorts under his new Chicago Bulls uniform.

"Oh yeah," a wistful Williams grinned, pulling up the hem to show off the dinosaur logo on the left leg of his Raptor shorts.

"That's my therapy. That's therapeutic, until I get totally comfortable."

Exactly.

At least Damon came out and apologized... and said that he realized now that he missed a really good opportunity when he left TOR... that he didn't realize how good he had it....

With Vince it's no apologies.... just excuses.... and that isn't going to cut it at the end of the day.

With or without revisionism, you cannot deny the impact Vince Carter had on this franchise and the basketball in Canada. Talk to the young Canadians being drafted in the lottery if you don't believe me.

Noone is trying to make him a saint. But it's also hard to argue that the one (and only, so far) name that's firmly associated with Toronto Raptors in the mind of fans around the globe is Vince Carter.

I'll deny the extent of it. It's definitely been exaggerated over the past few weeks.
