Raptors JV vs Kanter

With the upcoming game vs the Jazz i thought it might be a good discussion. I know he was picked before JV but Jonas is the more hyped of the two. Lately I've been noticing that Jonas isn't all he's cracked up to be. He struggles against big centers and lacks a real post game. Kanter on the other hand is extremely polished and has a wide array of post moves but lacks defensive upside. Who would you rather have for this team?

I like JV better of the two because he is much quicker. This might be better for the future because you have a lot of athletic bigs that came into the league over the past few years.

But in terms of big man prospects, I like Drummond more than both of them. He is further along than JV from defense, and I can see him being a dominating big in the future.

I think JV will be better, but he's 1-2 years away

havent' seen drummond yet this season, but his stats are very similar with JV's so far, shouldn't come as a surprise on a team with BJ and JS, not much left for the other guys Was expecting a lot more from both AD and JV.

Yep. Pretty much. I hoped to see a jump, and I still expect progress as the season rolls along. But the real deal is a ways away yet.

I don't know what it is with Jonas but he definitely lacks strength under the post which is what Raptors needs.

he's stronger, but he's still very young and his body is not fully developed. He had some pretty tough assignments too.

expectations were unreasonable, his showing in eurocup should have been a warning sign, but most preferred to blame ltu's coach for not playing him enough.

Jonas is only 21 and is getting his minutes jerked around. Kanter plays 34 mins a game, Jonas 26. They are the same age. Kanter has a thicker build, and weighs 15 lbs so he's got a more NBA ready body for a center currently. Due to the minutes/role differences, it's hard to compare the two right now. I actually prefer Jonas over the long term, but right now the two are close and Kanter may actually be playing a bit better.

I honestly don't know what the fuck Casey is doing with Jonas and his minutes right now. Meanwhile, DeRozan, who is sucking balls, is playing 38 mins a night.

You also have to remember Jonas doesn't get that many touches. Our offense is run by Rudy and demar

JV is far better than Kanter and Drummond. Does he have a post game ?
yes and he has a very solid hook shot, and another solid jumber.
His main problem is Casey.

Kanter's post game is much better than JV's and Drummond's. Drummond is a much better defender than either of the other two. JV is rebounding better than the others per-minute right now but I think it's clear Drummond is the best of the bunch rebounding wise. I fail to see how JV is better than either he's not really the best at anything. More potential maybe, but right now he's 3rd out of 3 in that race.

Well, today JV took Kanter to school. Scored on him any way he wanted, jumpers, hooks left, hooks right, pump fake and dunk, Kanter could not stop him whatsoever. He looked way bigger then Enes, those days of junior domination when Kanter was just much more stronger and bigger is over. Good to see that.

3 rebounds in 23 minutes is taking him to school?

It's funny, prior to the Indiana game I was looking at JV's numbers and was impressed that he was averaging 9.8ppg/8.5rpg considering he was only averaging 23mpg. The last two games have lowered his rebounding numbers but he's still averaging 9.5ppg/7rpg and in 23-24mpg. If he got 30-32mpg he would be averaging a double double imo.

JV definitely outplayed Kanter on both ends, he essentially made Kanter his bitch after those three successful post moves. 3 rebounds doesn't look good on the stat line, but he didnt really give up any offensive boards and him + Amir basically have a collected rebounding effort since a lot of the time, one boxes out so the other can grab a board. And I'm pretty sure it shows that JV is a more than capable rebounder, who will only to continue to get better as his frame fills out.

So hopefully, this game was a wakeup call to all you doubters who love to underrate JV since you seem to always think the grass is greener on the other side. JV could be averaging great stats if he too was playing 33+ mpg. Not to mention a team like Utah doesn't have a great 3rd big like Hansbrough to take minutes from JV. It'd be nice to seem JV play some more minutes/ get more shot attempts but I'm loving what I see.

Kanter's airballs on post moves in the paint were pretty sweet.

I like JV's motor and general truculence the best of the 3. He just needs consistent minutes from his coach and trust from his teammates then we can really compare the 3 because right now I think the other 2 have those elements in the situations they're in

I like JV's attitude, work ethic, length, instincts, rebounding, scoring touch, ft%. Ultimately I think JV will end up being the most well rounded player of the 3.

3 reb in 23 min is better then 4 in 37 min Kanter had but whatever... I was mainly talking about their production going against each other. Kanter scored 2 pts vs Jonas, Jonas scored all 14 directly against pylon alike Kanter's defense.
