Julian Wright refused to play in Golden State blowout

1 game team suspension ahead?

Quote:

Toronto’s hapless hoopsters lost 138-100.

It got so bad for the Raptors, who trailed by as many as 47 points, that forward Julian Wright refused to be a part of the proceedings. Jay Triano, the Raptors head coach, said he asked Wright to go into the game at some point in the third quarter, only to watch Wright remain firmly seated on the visitors’ bench.

“I just went to the next guy,” said Triano. “I wasn’t going to ask him twice.”

Wright, in the end, was the only able-bodied Raptor on the active roster who did not play.

“I asked (Wright) to go in, and he didn’t go in,” Triano said. “I know he went to the washroom just before that. I don’t know if he wasn’t feeling well. I still haven’t talked to him.”

Wright, who left the locker-room in haste after the game, refused to answer a reporter’s questions about his non-performance.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” Wright said. “Speculate on anything you want.”

One locker-room source speculated that Wright, whose playing time has been down of late, was upset that he was only being asked to enter the game after it had degenerated into an epic blowout

“Everybody knew (Wright) was mad on the bench,” said the source.

Wright is no one, if he doesn't want to play then don't play him.. simple as that. There are alot of guys who want minutes in this league, refusing to play them is a disgrace.

It's been nice knowing you Julian. Take care.

INSIDER 03-26-2011 11:59 AM

good for you Julian.
take a stand!
you'll have all the minutes you want next year when you are playing for the Delaware Rapids.

Nice move... I mean you are the hardest working dude and he ask you to go in the game after 40 point blowout?? FUCK YOU TRIANO!!

I hope DD ans Jose do the same thing so this dumb-ass would be fired!!!

If players don't want to play for you, than you should quit!

fk24 03-26-2011 12:16 PM

This is stupid. Instead of a story about the historically bad defense designed by Triano theres a story about a 10th man in the roster refusing to play. Players have a sense of pride in themselves. Theres no sense of pride in only coming in to clean up a 40 point blowout.

fk24 03-26-2011 12:18 PM

Triano is a mastermind of directing the attention away from the issues at hand such as suspect defense and focus it on another story.

But none of it is Triano's fault, don't you know that?

Sorry, what did Triano mastermind here? And I'm always amazed with the criticism of Triano and 'defense'. Where were these criticisms in the OKC game? Dallas game? Seriously, how is it always the coach and never the players? Think about yourself when you played....coach gave you a gameplan, e.g. focus on this player, don't let them get open etc. and you had to execute it. It's up to the player to defend.

As for Julian Wright. Good way to be a professional ass clown. You have zero offensive game that others respect and you're gonna dictate when you come in? Really? I'd get if it was Kobe or Lebron, but Julian freaking wright? Enjoy your career in Europe.

Please, tell me, what would have another coach have done? I'm insanely interested to see some game plans here?

Plain and simple, a better more experienced coach would have them playing better defense. Sorry, since he's taken over the coaching job this team has been laughable on defense. Like epically bad, and it's on him as well as the players. He holds nobody accountable and he can't teach defense. It's not just the players.

What about accountability? What about assigning proper roles on the team? What about distribution of minutes? None of that is Triano's fault I guess.

Sit Bargnani out the rest of the game. 7 points, 0 blocks, 0 rebounds, get him out of the dam game.

And your living in an igloo if you don't think the players on the team share just as much criticism as well.

fk24 03-26-2011 12:37 PM

I guess bashing Julian Wright makes us all feel better about the 84 points at the half we gave up.

Well, last season we had players calling Triano out in the media, now a player refuses to play when asked. And the last two seasons have been some of worst defense ever.

couldn't agree more
as a well paid professional athlete, you go in and play hard WHENEVER or WHATEVER the situation is...that's your JOB
this organization needs to send a strong message right now and fire his sorry ass

if they don't then i'll lose a lot of faith and respect for the Toronto Raptors organization and i sincerely hope the PAYING fans rain down on him every chance they get

pathetic behaviour from a so-called "professional"
