Raptors

Wright has addressed his teammates with an apology, so even he knows it was wrong, further, colangelo said it was handled "internally". It was in the Toronto Star....don't know about a link.

Julian Wright has apologized for refusing to go into the game last night … as the Raptors were being blown out by the Golden State Warriors.

With Toronto down by 35+ points for most of the evening, head coach Jay Triano called upon Wright to go into the game late in the contest. But the swingman told the coach that he wouldn’t sub-in. When word of this story leaked out after the final buzzer, there was some talk that Wright may have been sick (he had recently returned from the rest room when Triano called his number) but it turns out the Kansas product’s health had nothing to do with his decision to not enter the game.

Wright addressed the coaches and his teammates in a game-day meeting earlier today. He apologized for his actions but said “everyone understood” his frustration.

“The best way to put it is this was not characteristic of me,” said Wright. “That’s why I think this is (now) a thing of the past.”

Wright, who is the Raptors union rep, wouldn’t say whether or not he regretted his decision, simply saying that things have been handled internally and the team is just going to “finish strong”.

He has not been suspended … he is at the arena and is getting set to get dressed for the game.

Whether or not Wright has been fined by the Raptors is being kept internal as well.

For what it’s worth, a number of Wright’s teammates — especially Reggie Evans — were playfully yelling out some cat-calls at the reporters and offering words of support to Wright as we were chatting with him.

I haven't watched a game in over a month and didn't even know there was a game yesterday.

This Julian Wright mess only makes me glad that i am oblivious to this season.

So, whatever, really... He has mostly hurt his own image.
The writing was on the wall way before that. He barely played even when he was needed. IMO he's more needed on this team then Weems, for defense and energy alone, add to that he doesn't force things or chuck on the offensive end.

Since Jay Triano has taken over, we have been THE worst defensive team in the league. When he first took over from Sam Mitchell, he didn't fare well for the rest of the year, but used the excuse that "I didn't have a full year's training camp". The very next year, in said training camp, he preached defense first and "protecting the house"...what happened? We were 30th in defense in the league. Yes, I know we don't have the greatest defensive players, but this year (at last check), we are either 29th or 30th. Again, part of it is the players, yes; but as a head coach, it is your job to mask some of the players' deficiencies, and create a system that allows them to succeed...NOT allow the team to give up close to 106 points a game.

Secondly, I think if you're on the team, in the NBA, then when your number is called - regardless of situation - you go in. It's your damn job, and you're getting paid a TON of money to do it.

The only excuse I would allow here, for Julian, is if he had the scoobies, and was scared that jumping for a rebound his tap-ass would open up and flood his shorts. (In that case, he gets a bye).
I agree. He isn't a good defensive coach. He's had what, 20-30 players play under him in his nearly 3 seasons. You mean to tell me none of these players can play defense if put in the right position to do so. Which is up to him to figure out. Sure, like you said the players aren't great players, but imo a better coach can improve their defense overall. It goes both ways, it's on the players, but to basically just blame the players and give the coach a pass for the most part after almost 3 seasons of some of the worst defense ever is a little nave.

Julian Wright should learn from Bargnani. If you don't fancy a match up in the upcoming match, get "flu symptoms"!
I can understand Julian. He was really upset by the performance, all he did was the same thing as others on the team NOT LISTEN to Triano. All Triano's said is great and right, but JT doesn't see any of it through. He couldn't say anything to Bosh, now he can't say anything to Bargns. How do you expect anyone to listen to you?

Wasn't P.J. Carlesimo hired because he's known as a defense- and rebounding-first coach? If so, one (or more) of the following has/have to be true:

a) Jay is not listening to PJ.
b) PJ isn't providing any value
c) The team is made up of scrubs

Love to see what raptorsforumnation thinks in the form of a poll. My vote is heavily on c).

Oh, and a counter-argument to the 20-30 players argument is summed up nicely here:

Quote:
One, youve got a number of new guys who are going to be in the rotation so thats immediately a challenge, said assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo. Two, you dont have a lot of continuity. Even though you could say its Jays third year, its at least a second, if not a third, different roster so its not like hes had two years to install his system and the same guys are playing his system.

I think in the NBA you can get away with having one bad defender on the floor at a time at the most.

I guess it's better to have a depressed player that doesn't want to play, then it is a depressed player that punches his teammates.

So you're betting that none of our defensive deficiencies the last three seasons under Triano has virtually nothing to do with Triano?

They made Julien Wright to call season ticket holders, or is it and old video? That would be a funny punishment.
