When was the last time Raptors were a good defensive team?

Terrible group of players, no on-court leadership, bunch of 1-dimensional players that can't play defense. Triano sucks but even Phil Jackson couldn't make this team much better than it is right now.

Unless Wright was sick or something, he should have gone in. Dumb move by him.

I say fire Triano and let carlesimo take over the remainder of the season.

I tuned in halfway through the 2nd quarter, so maybe I'm being too harsh, but my issue with Triano last night wasn't just the defense - which was just not played.

We were down by a lot at the half, but it wasn't a lost cause. What we needed was a clear strategy to get the team back in it - drive to the hoop, get fouled, slow down the game to prevent runouts... Basically, we needed plays to be executed. Perhaps this is partly Bayless' fault, but I didn't see the Raptors run more than 5 plays. The ball goes into the corner and people are just standing... no cuts to the basket, off-ball picks, anything.

GS wasn't playing lockdown D - though they were pumped up and playing hard. We were just making it easy for them by not running plays, which, for me, ultimately falls on the coach. It's just so frustrating seeing him sit on the bench, we're down by 40+, and he looks like he just doesn't give a fuck. I know it's not all about looking like you care, but god damn, man, show some desire to at least not embarrass yourself and the team. The locker room conversation at halftime must have pumped the team up in order to produce this shot chart:

He must have not let them on on the fact that they just gave up the most points in a half, ever, and that fucking around and jacking up random shots was the way to keep playing. Honestly, I was expecting him to get fired right after the game, but alas...

Indeed, a dumb move by a borderline player looking to stick in the NBA.

My sense is that the coaches, players, fans and anyone else is fed up with Bargs being given a free pass all these years as he refuses to try on defense. I know I am.

BC is losing a lot of respect making a pylon the Golden Child.

Wright refusing to play is a symptom of a larger problem. However, he will be held accountable.

so why did triano just ignore what happend with wright? he said he wasn't gonna ask him twice and he might have been feeling sick? wtf why even say anything until you know what happened and why not confront him during a timeout or something I mean they were down by 40 so its not like they were wasting a timeout lol

2 reasons:

1. as a leader, you don't throw your own guys under the bus in front of the public - in a game, in the media, you just don't. all you accomplish by publicly bitching a guy out is the creation of a bunch of news stories about conflict on your team. there is no win here.

2. as a professional, you shouldn't have to be asked twice. you want to pout on the bench, fine. another guy who wants to play will be there instead. you don't get a second chance. there is little doubt in my mind that, barring any injuries, juju will not play another minute for the raps this year. he may even get waived.

act like a child get treated like a child. you're done julian. buh bye.

JT did exactly the right thing...just as you described above
he handled the whole situation perfectly

wouldn't be surprised if Wright's ass has been booted out of BC's office already
good bye and good riddance

I was wondering why Julian wasn't getting any burn especially in a blowout.

In a way, I commend him for what he thought was right....but dude needs to be professional. Did he just ignore Jay or flat out said no? I guess both are equally bad.

Either way its bad, especially because hes Julian Wright. Like Claudius said, he is not Kobe Bryant and shouldn't deny going in the game.

I hope next year Weems & JuJu can go complain about their roles elsewhere

It works when you're bashing AB.... truth is, people love to scapegoat.

Julian is in the wrong, but some use this to bash Triano... who has also done some poor things..... all guys do, some just choose to focus on who they hate.

I thought Julian was GREAT when he got to play meaningful minutes... And he is still pretty young... Sad to hear this. He won't be back next season.

no, he pouted too... this team needs to stop bringing guys in and telling them they deserve shit. Role definition is needed here more than anywhere else. Is it any coincidence guys like Weems, Wright, Belinelli, Turkoglu all think they deserved to be pampered here?

It's one thing to encourage development for all, but it has to be monitored and controlled too. Reggie has learned this even after last year's all too infrequent rebound-shot scenario.... I remember reading about Colangelo discussing the kickout with Reggie this offseason. Seems like he's gotten the message and is delivering. Why aren't the others getting the message?

Why are we jumping to conclusions here? Does it say in the article the actual reason why Wright didn't want to play? No. There is "speculation". For all we know, he could've been feeling under the weather. Don't be hating on the guy until you know the full story...

Wright is a competitive guy, and doesn't like losing.

er, I'm not applauding that. Nobody sits there ignoring him when he shows up for his bi-weekly massive paycheque.

And if he thinks he is able to shut guys down any better, he can go out and show how it's done.

The coach should have been made aware if he was unable to go.... not just when his name was called. Yeah I'm jumping, but we all knew Jose wasn't going to play.... I'm just tired of hearing bit players on the Raptors being bad apples. People want to get rid of Barbosa, but that guy is a professional..... he doesn't complain about not starting, getting 15 mins instead of 30.... we need much more of this than what these whiners bring. More team, less me.

zero tolerance of selfishness is the way to go.
