Juan Dixon a Raptor again?

In Doug Smith's blog this moring he discussed what was left out there (Free agents) and there isn't much.He staed that Juan Dixon's people contacted the Raptors at the begining of free agency about possibly coming back to the Raptors. There other options might include Jaycee Carroll. They are looking for a combo guard that won't really play unless Jose/Ukic have foul or injury issues.

I'd take Dixon back again. The pickins are certainly slim right now. Carroll is shit ..... I'm sorry. I watched a couple of the summer league games the other night and outside of his 14 point outburst in 4 minutes of playing time, the kid did nothing to impress me in my opinion. We already know what to expect from Juan. Taking a chance with Carroll is a crapshoot and I don't think is worth it.

I would love Dixon back. I love his character and I think he is a decent player. Too bad he cant really play the point

rapsfan087 07-22-2008 10:34 AM

Dunno about Carroll, if I'm not wrong first games with Raptors were good and the last ones were bad ... all the people was saying that O.J. Mayo was feeling the high pace of games (many games in few days) at the summer league ... dunno why not to think that maybe Carroll was tired too, he played with NJ too in Orlando, and there he played well.

Yes, I will agree with that Bel but at desperate times he's not a bad option. Certainly better than having come one like Carroll who's not a ball handler at all. :(

JayJayW 07-22-2008 10:57 AM

Juan will do the job that needs to be done...

we all know he aint going to put up big numbers but he will come of the bench and do what he has to do...just as long as he doesnt throw up stupid shots like he used to

Claudius 07-22-2008 11:06 AM

Dixon is a calming veteran presence off the bench. It's what we need and maybe he can give Roko some pointers. I still feel that having Darrick Martin and his spanish speaking abilities did more for Jose in his first year than anything else. Having a similar veteran on the end of the bench for Roko would help also.

I just like the fact that Juan took the initiative to have his peeps contact us and express that he wants to come back to Toronto to play for the Raps. Its rare that players actually WANT to come to Canada to play. :)

the_ raps_analyst 07-22-2008 11:11 AM

he's a combo guard but i like him. He can shoot the ball and would be a sick pickup

INSIDER 07-22-2008 11:11 AM

Juan would be a nice addition to round out the roster.
and its a plus that he wants to come back.

Good guy

MangoKidHoops 07-22-2008 12:39 PM

This is the same guy that wasn't getting any real PT, and asked to be dealt - who's to say the same situation won't re-occur?

Superjudge 07-22-2008 12:57 PM

No shit.

salman_127 07-22-2008 01:49 PM

I would sign and trade dixon
but the dixon and brezec deal was a rip off for the raps at trade deadline last year
i would sign and trade him for some young players that have a great patentiol in the future

'trane 07-22-2008 02:02 PM

salman, do you really think another team will trade "some young players with great potential (sic) in the future" for juan dixon, an aging vet with little talent beyond a 12th man role?

Really?

The thing with trades that you might want to consider is this: It has to be worthwhile, at least on some basic level, for both parties. Otherwise its thievery, and no GM is that stupid.

Think man, think!

Juan would be a logical choice. He offers decent handles for a third string PG and he could add some scoring off the bench at the 2.

And as an added plus, he already knows the Smitches PLAY

bartron_44 07-23-2008 09:21 AM

As long as we don't overpay....I think we need more of a pure PG. Dixon forced alot of bullshit shots when he was here last time. And if he has to log some serious minutes due to an injury...:( we will be in some serious trouble. He's not a bad garbage time SG, but thats about it IMO.I guess it wouldn't hurt too bad if we can sign him for the minimum though.

What do you expect, he was filling in for TJ.:evillaugh:

n30tokyo 07-23-2008 08:46 PM

I don't think we need him. I think the Raps should just go with their current 12-man rotation. Mr. Smitch seems to have a tendency to bench certain players in there. If that's going to be the case, why bother sign him? Pay him to be a benchwarmer? Or we could save whatever little bit of cap space we have and see if we whatever free agents would be there in the latter of the season.
