Is Jose a top 5 PG in the league?

Hey guys,

If, not, who's above him?

Shifty.py 12-17-2012 08:19 AM

No
Couple good games do not cancel out the rest.
He is top 1 in efficiency I'd say. No other takes care of the ball like him. But to be good you have to be agressive as well. Not to mention defensive end

SteveTT 12-17-2012 08:21 AM

Paul, Westbrook, Rondo, Williams, Nash ...

CP3
Rondo
Irving
Rose
Westbrook
TPark

I voted NO.
First I want to say that I'm a Jose fan ... great team guy, and knows how to play PG.
Would love him to retire as a Raptor and mentor a young PG ... need a very reduced Salary as a Back-up PG. We now have Lowry who is supposed to be our future PG ... Not convinced yet on Lowry ... he brings other dimensions to the court vs Jose, but whether it's injuries / his inability to lead a team, I'm certainly not sold on him as our starting PG ... hope I'm wrong.

Tier 1:
Paul
Rondo
Deron
Irving
Rose
Westbrook
Nash
Parker

Jose's in tier 2 somewhere.

Tier 2:
Damian Lillard
Steph Curry
John Wall
Brandon Knight
Ricky Rubio
Kyle Lowry
Brandon Jennings
Goran Dragic
Eric Bledsoe
Chauncey Billups

Though, Jose is no doubt one of the best at running an offense - probably top 5 in that regard. Rondo, Nash, Paul, maybe Jose after them.

Looking through tier 2 there's so many young PGs with a bright future right now.

Perhaps with his national team .

But seriously, who are the other 2 fortunate PG's you put with Jose in this elite?

RAPMAN 12-17-2012 09:01 AM

He is not the top point guard in his own team.

Shadowfax 12-17-2012 09:31 AM

smh

creative1mm 12-17-2012 09:34 AM

probably one of the best non-all star pg's in the league

Tomas 12-17-2012 09:40 AM

Voted yes, though he's not actually top5. He's easily top10 when he plays as starter, but coming from the bench looks different. Not that I see a valid reason why shouldn't he always start.. he's doing way more assists than Kyle ever will and that's PG's primary role.

Combine this with the "Do we overrate our players" thread.

woodchuck 12-17-2012 10:11 AM

Jose is the greatest of this era, right above Greivis Vasquez.

Bill Haverchuck 12-17-2012 10:20 AM

There should be a third option:

1-yes
2-no
3-LMAO

Obvious troll is obvious?

You really want to know if Jose is a top 5 point or top 10 point guard in this league.

Lets go to the Clippers, and ask if they would be willing to trade Chris Paul straight up for Jose Calderon.

Do the same thing for Rondo with Boston, Deron Williams with the Nets, Westbrook for OKC, Tony Parker with SA, Rose with the Bulls, Irving with Cavs, Holiday with Philly, Lawson with Denver, Curry with GSW, Lilliard with Portland, Teague with ATL, Conley with Memphis, Walker with CHA.

To those four posters who voted for JOSE as a top 5 point guard in the league, pick any of the fourteen teams mentioned up above that would be willing to trade their starting point guard straight up for Jose, that's when you get your true answer. There is a reason why Jose is available as trade bait, and its not because the RAPS can sign him to long-term contract.
