Nobody but a few missionaries gave a shit about their needs or living conditions.

People of african or aboriginal descent were hunted down like animals all over the world for the crime of not being white for the most part. There are pictures where white men pose with their "game" proudly.

Aboriginal-canadian mothers as late as 1969 had their children taken away from them at birth by doctors who said the children were stillborn, and then sent the infants out for adoption. There's a good chance that my brother came into this world in that matter. Nobody cared.

I could go on and on. You could go to Asia and look at the rape of Nanking and the brutalities that the Japanese perpetrated upon the Chinese. My father-in-law refuses to accept those things happened. So in a sense he is a victim and a victimizer.

We have all seen how everyone was able to simply look past the worst degradations that this stupid picture cannot compare to. And I for one feel a jolt of dread that we could go back to that when I see that happen even to the slightest degree, and even if it is a matter of muddled intentions.

Jose is going to eat Japanese babies because of the picture....

Seriously...all the things you said are terrible...and guess what , governments have done terrible things to their own people..

I fail to see how this picture is the start of a slippery slope back to historys darkest momments..

"a jolt of dread".....ykes....remind me never to tell a racial joke around you.

Guess what - pretty much all of the instances I mentioned were done to people by people of their own nationality. I'm not sure how you missed that.

And thanks for not veering into any racial jokes. I really don't find them funny.

Look - I'm agreeing with you in that we probably are too sensitive. I definitely am. But I prefer that to the opposite. You seem to have missed the point of my post. It was not to point out that terrible actions were indeed terrible. It was that nobody much saw them as anything terrible at all at the time. They were seen as good and decent and entirely justifiable. That is the slippery slope I dread. I know bad things will always happen. I just fear the day that we fail to recognize them - and again - even if they amount to the smallest of slights.

Fair enough, and I fear the day when we fail to stop laughing at ourselves, and start taking everything so serious around us.

NO matter how much people say Canada or USA is a good country, nobody is rascist there but the thing is there are still a lot of people living in theses 2 countries that are rascist. One story that I know of is that there is this kid on my street that isn't allowed to play with black kids because his mother told him to.

lol, a revelation, there's racist people everywhere!!!

I find it funny that Europeans thumb their noses at American history because of slavery etc. When there's is so much worse, so so so so much worse.

And making slanted eyes is stupid. But anybody who thinks so is just overly sensitive. Why make up rules for who should be sensitive and how much. I appreciate that you are sensitive to certain words Benzo. I wouldn't even think of saying that you are part of a world that is becoming increasingly humorless.

There was a humorous take on the slanted eyes on the Daily Show. It was ok. But I didn't see the Spanish team presenting themselves for comedic effect. And regardless of their intent, with no further context it just plain looked regrettably bad. But you want us to laugh? Is that what you are trying to say? Or are you just hinting at something else, attempting to push some buttons? Because that would truly be faggoty.

Oh and my faggot friends all allow me to use that word, and no I don't need to blow them in return.

You are talking about 2 completely separte issues, when certain words, actions etc..(yes slanty eyes) are used, to try and inflict harm or to dissrespect, I find that unnacceptable. Jokes are fine. It is clear that the Spanish National Basketball team did not mean any offense...

but my real issue was with your slippery slope theroy....no I don't even think someone calling someone a faggot on a message board will lead to eating Japanese babies.

And nor do I, but you insist on missing my point, so I will give up and say hey Benzo - you are so correct.

Good enough kind sir?

I'm not missing it....I just think it is an over simplification and gross exaggeration.

but yes I thank you for pointing out my correctness.

I personally believe so. But what exactly makes it clear? It's a picture of what looks like a bunch of dickheads. How is it so easy to presume that no offense was intended, or that it wasn't the product of a shared racist past? In fact you seem to be saying that those looking at the picture and seeing dickheads are the idiots, while those who allowed themselves to look like idiots in such a public fashion with no awareness of how they might be seen that way, are victims of overly sensitive, humorless reactionaries. I would like to hear them say something very different myself. That's all. To come out and say that "some of my best friends are Chinese", just falls a little short. Thoughtlessness is thoughtlessness in my books. It's human and can be admitted and we can move on. Or we can just point fingers back and forth which is pointless.

You made the world a sad and lonely place.
No you did.
No you did.
No No No - you forced me to sit next to my cold computer screen and weep over my lost innocence.

cyber hug? anyone? Mike? Cling? anyone?

Yeah - I kinda said that. But again - sigh - I prefer to err on that side than of what I've seen of the past.
