Jose to the Sonics?

Let the rumours begin fellas. :(

But could you imagine a Calderon & Durant duo? WOW

In the offseason, who knows? Play off of the seething Spaniard discontent with the Toronto Raptors, and throw that space at Jose Calderon. Watch as Jose flourishes at 35 minutes per, watch him defy gravity with those stretch lay-ups and watch as I watch and tell others to watch because the SuperSonics are infinitely more watchable than the team Iíve been watching so far this season.

I dont' think BC will let him go easily. The last few games is proof of why. Tj is awesome but his size and style are prone to minor injuries. Having them both is a huge strength. The SOnics or anyone would have to throw a lot more than the mid level at him to pry him loose methinks.

I don't think Jose is going to go to a place where they're going to lose for the next 3 years. Jose wants to win. If he goes someplace, it'll be someplace where he has a chance to win. Cleveland?

And what would we get back from Seattle?

Rain... and more rain...

Besides being that Sonics are moving I think the last thing they want is to sign new players or do major trades...

Claudius 12-06-2007 05:23 PM

I could see Jose maybe landing in Washington and push Gil to the two spot and let that team run and run even more. The Lakers would probably LOVE to have him as would the Clippers. Again, if you had to trade him I'd trade him for Maggette plus someone. And I wouldn't rule out Phoenix either. If they wanted to open up the check books, the Suns would have someone to run their second unit finally and then push LB to the 2. And when Nash retires they might not even lose a step.

The real question is, what does this team need right now? What should we even ask in return for Jose/TJ? In my opinion, the only trade that makes sense for us is to package a pg and a good player for an even better player on that position. Kind of like TJ + Andreea for Pau Gasol ... :) TJ + Parker for Kobe Bryant etc. None of these trades would ever happen - so then what's the point of trading either one?

Claudius 12-06-2007 06:19 PM

I agree milk. In reality, we shouldn't even think about trading our key PG tandem. I think the only time we would make a move is if we were sure we weren't or aren't able to re-sign Jose.

BballWatcher 12-06-2007 07:07 PM

The Sonics have coveted Jose at least since the beginning of last season...

Jeff Green and Ridnour+contract for Caldy and Rasho

moremilk 12-06-2007 09:35 PM

How is this an upgrade? I think (hope) that we're done acquiring prospects, I think we're entering a new era, when we start to dream about title contention and stuff like that. In two years, we MUST be a legitimate contender, and we already have enough problems trying to fit in Bargnani, do we really need another rookie to baby-sit?

How about this trade: TJ + Rasho + whatever makes it work for Jason Kidd? Now that would be major-league payback to Vince Carter, and kidd would probably make us contenders for the east at least this year and the next. Jose would get a chance to learn from the master.

Belsius 12-06-2007 10:31 PM

What its clear is that the only way jose is moving is because he is going to start in a posible playoff team. Jose is happy in toronto so it must be a decent offer.

Belsius 12-06-2007 10:32 PM

Anyway I bet To is going to move Tj and not Calde, who knows.

I think most would be happy about that Belsius, but moving Ford will be a helluva lot tougher than moving Jose. :(

I really doubt we're going to move anybody this year. We can match whatever Calderon is offered, and we'll have a lot more options after the 2008 season - by that time we'll know if Moon is for real, if Andreea is for real and so on. After 2008, we'll be in a great situation, with lots of assets and potential cap-space. It will be very interesting what will Colangelo do about Delfino, since he'll be a free agent this summer as well (restricted?).

Pure speculation on the author's part (a Seattle author, I suppose).

moremilk 12-07-2007 04:58 PM

and really, why would we downgrade from jose to ridnour when luke is making almost 7 million per year? I'd rather overpay Jose, give him 10 million so he can accept the bench scenario ....
