José Manuel Calderón Love/Appreciation Thread

I was just thinking to myself about José's play this year and how strong it's been since Jack was traded and even at the start of the season (In the game against the Lakers in L.A. I remember José was running around the court, fighting through screens, keeping up on first steps), man, he was playing some damn good defense for a while there. His play continues to be impressive, and I think we can agree he's shut most the of naysayers up.

Here's to you José Manuel Calderón!!

He must have it tattooed on some part of his body.

FoldedLaundry 01-16-2011 07:54 PM

Exactly. I loved him since the 2006 year. Never stopped the love, although at some points I didn't think it was necessary to trade him but the love never stopped :P

Also I remember in like NBA Live 2008, whenever Jose scored they used to say his whole name like in the title

Jose has the most steals on our team. His defense has actually been a lot better this season. To be honest he's been a better defender than Demar Andrea and Kleiza this year.

It would have been nice to have seen this year's Jose in the previous two seasons.

jose.. you da man. if only you were 5 years younger you'd fit perfectly in our system. we wouldnt need another pg and we'd be able to keep you.

With the exception of Kleiza, thats not saying much, I doubt Bargs even knows what D is, and Demar tries but half the time he's up against a star, of some sort, I won't judge his D too heavily just yet.

As for Jose, I'll give him credit for his bright spots this year, but he still is way too injury prone for the lack of contact this guy gets, and lack of physicality. Theres still no place on this team for him, and even less of one with that contract.

Oh well, props to em for upping his value :yeah::dancing:

he's playing some of the best basketball of his career right now. hopefully he can keep this up.

It's all because he's over the hamstring issues. That was the killer with him last year and the year before. That's what was affecting his lateral quicks and that's why people were shitting on his defense. I thought the criticisms were a touch unfair at the time, but whatever, i'm just glad he is over his problems.

Yes he has been great this year. Kudos to Jose. The starting PG slot has been the least of our concerns this season.

This pretty much says it for me. He's looked good since late November after an atrocious start to the season. Good for him, now I hope he's raised his value enough in a 6 week span minus his injury stint that can get us something half decent. :eekout:

The guy is 8th in the league in assists per game. Considering he started of the bench in the begining of the season, which is part of the reason why he is the only one of the 24 guys averaging over 5 assists a game that averages less than 30 mins per game, thats pretty good. He is 3rd in assists per 48mins (behind Rondo and Nash). So he can pass the ball.

He leads the league in assist to TO-ratio. So he can take care of the ball.

He is 11th in 3-point percentage and 8th among guards (not fair to compare to C's) in 2p-%. So I guess he can shoot too.

His defense has also improved a lot. He is still not a stopper, but he can hold his own nowadays.

He is a team player and a fighter. I would think he is pretty good influence for the young guys on the team.

He has been the most consistent player on this team. Early in the season he had some problems with streaky shooting, but lately he has basically scored 10-15point in every game and handed out 8-12 assists. This not including the last game where he had 20-15 night.

So basically he it offensively on of the better PG's in this league. Not a top-5 PG, but probably could be considered above average starting PG.

He is being paid like 10mil a year, which isnt even that bad considering his play of late. And more importantly Raps are not currently having problems with having too much salary on roster.

So I'd say pretty good for a guy who everybody was ready to trade for pack of peanuts last year. I would say that currently PG is the spot were are best set (when Jerryd comes back atleast).
