Jose hurt again or just struggling?

Why does talk or evidence of him being hurt always surface after a bad game?

Quote:
Turkoglu hasn't been as effective as advertised, for one, and neither has Jose Calderon, who was seen applying a wrap to his right hamstring after a six-turnover debacle in Wednesday's drubbing. Calderon repeatedly has claimed good health this season, but it's important to remember that the Raptors, and NBA teams in general, are often not transparent in their public disclosure of ailments. It was only in October's training camp that Calderon acknowledged the full extent of last year's injury – a six-centimetre tear in his right hamstring. Before that, he'd claimed he was physically "fine," this even when the numbers suggested he clearly was hurting.

This year, the Spaniard is either hurt or not very good.

Calderon's player efficiency rating (PER) is only slightly better than that of the average NBA player's thus far. The league average of the all-encompassing stat devised by ESPN.com's John Hollinger – which, though it's not perfect, is the best measure yet devised of a player's per-minute effectiveness – is 15. Calderon was riding at about 17.3 as of Monday.

The problem is, when Calderon is on the floor, the opposing point guard is putting up a PER of 23.7, according to 82games.com. For an example of an NBA point guard achieving a PER in the neighbourhood of 23.7, think Steve Nash, who the Raptors will see on Sunday when the resurgent Phoenix Suns come to town.

In other words, Calderon is such a non-factor on defence he is making all of his opponents look like Nash.

In a point guard's league, Toronto is a minus-6.4 in point-guard PER when Calderon is on the floor. A year ago, even with the awful Roko Ukic and Will Solomon backing up Calderon, the Raptors, as a team, were a plus-1.1 at the position.

Those are some poignant defensive numbers...i know the team in general hasn't played defence well this year, but it starts at the point and these are numbers that back up what a lot of people were saying.

Problem is, where the hell do you find a great PG. Teams aren't exactly dangling them out there.

How could we get Chris Paul?

Who knows if He's hurt? problem is he's very good on the offensive side and sucks on defence, This team is more in need of a defensive pg stopper that just move the ball on offense..and you got JJ that sucks too (except 2 games)

Jose is a good point guard and gets criticized unjustly.

True, but he also gets praised undeservedly.

Jose is a fine PG who just can't play hurt. If he breaks a finger nail his game is off. I think thats the skinny on Jose.

A decent PG but just has no toughness

A few seasons ago Jose dislocated his finger in a match. The therapist popped it back to place on the sideline and Jose finished the game and subsequently didn't miss any time because of it.

If there is one thing that Jose most certainly is, it's a tough player who plays with heart.

Last year's musle tear completely fucked up his lateral quicks - and because of it he's now become the defensive whipping boy of the team when really it's the team defense which is the problem.

Hey he said it himself he was playing hurt end of last season. Playing hurt shouldn't be an excuse to having bad game.

What a was crazy post . When Jose has a bad game hes always hurt ? What the hell I guess everyone last game was hurt. The funny thing about the Raptors is that its between Bosh and Jose when it comes to whats wrong with the leam. These 2 guys are treated as the leaders and at times it sounds that Jose is your MVP because this team goes as Jose goes. If not why does he get so much negative bull shit on this site. Folkes believe it or not Jose has the toughest heart on the team and plays through any mior ache or pain. Hes not your typical american , school yard, tough dude that grows up in a tough world then once they get to the NBA they sit out games with alittle cold. He has the biggest heart on this team. He wants to win not just for his Raptors but for all of us raptors. The guys gives all hes got and it kills him when we lose. I really believe he wants it more for us then himself. Thats just the way Jose is wired.
Right now i don't buy that hes hurt, hes been strong on offence and has been his typical self on defence. His d is what it is. Hell on offence he had a Nash type number with 6 t/o but hell we go crazy because Jose getting 1 t/o in a game is expected.Jose can break down any point guard in NBA does that make all those point guards bad on defence. Jose can score 20 pts a game if wanted too, all he has to do is take are more shots. This thing about Jose always comes up when we lose but when we win hes not the problem. If Jose has that much of an impact on our team he must be our MVP and shit we got him at a bargain when he could have made alot more if he left.

Problem when we win? Now you want us to be consistant and complain when the team wins? I can do that...Jose's defense sucks even in wins but i'd rather not complain about wins

Thats my point about his d, it is what it is.

Look at old man Johnson last night schooling the young ones I wonder who was playing bad d in that game .

You see, I asked one question.

How do we get this PG who is all the things we need Jose to be on offence, but better, AND a great defender????

Sombody show me a sensible scenario that will get us that guy.

until you can, shut up about it, the grass aint always greener. There's another terrible PG out there who cant guard his shadow, his last name is Nash.

We all want to have an all star PG, but face it, there are only 4 in the league, and you simply aren't going to take one from his team. Period.

yep.

not that it cant be better, I just can't see a scenario right now where a team lets Paul, or Deron Williams go.

It ain't gonna happen. Elite PG's and Centers are damn hard to find.

Other then the last game when the whole team pretty much stunk, Jose was playing very well. If Jose was hurt, he wouldn't be playing 30+MPG since they have Jack back there. Isn't that what Jack is for???.........in case of injury we have a guy that can start without missing a beat.

Jose will be fine, he's still a top 10pg imo.

and i think that's why Jose played as much as he did last year (because we had nobody to take his place).
I just think he's one of those guys that wants to help the team no matter what (even if he isn't that much help when he's injured).
