Jose Discussing His Future

Belsius where are you? We need you to translate this article. :D

These two quotes are courtesy of the translation at Hoopshype. So don't kill the messenger. ;)

Quote:

"You get more respect if you sign a good contract. But it's not everything. If I get a 12-million offer next year from a team that has no options to win, I'm not interested to go there at all", said Jose Calderon. "It would be bad for my career. I will seriously look at it." That sentence means he could even return to Europe.
Don't really understand the point he's trying to make in this next quote though.

Quote:

Calderon: "If a friend of mine wants to come to the US to see me, maybe he will not travel to Toronto. It will depend on how good is going to be the Raptors' offer. I enjoy doing my job here in Toronto. I like the city."

Huh?

Jose say it ain't so!

Acie 01-10-2008 11:56 AM

He probably means if someone from Spain wants to play in the NBA they may rather play in the US instead of Canada.

Not until we deal Bargani for him at least. :D

Belsius 01-10-2008 02:17 PM

Umm, they just put a lot of quotes, I dont like how is written but oh well. I hate this newspaper, its just right wing sensacionalist crap. Im just going to translate the quotes:

-"A good contract gives you respect, If I sign a good contract I will gain respect, Thats important, I hope it all ends well."

-"What I want is to win, Im not interested on going to a place where I get a 12 million contract and I dont success in the colective end, its not positive for my career, Ill be watching that."

-Talking about comming to europe " I would go back really proud, I would have wanted to win the ACB (spanish league) or the Euroleague. I reached the finals for both".
The article states that thats far away in time from happening.

-Talking about not scoring a lot: "If a wanted to take more shots I could, of course, but if a teammate has an open shot I prefer to give him the ball. I dont like to force shots, I prefer to take more time from the clock".

- His objetive is to be like Nash and Kidd: "First, because they are regular, second because they are a double menace, they can make all their teammates good, and cam also score, I want to defense to feel threatened by me, to make things easier for my teammates."

-"last year I wasnt so confident with the ball, this year Im trying to make as little turnovers as I can, not to risk if the pass is not clear".

-" if a spaniard wants to see play me next year, I dont know if hell have to go to TO, It dependes on the raptors bet. I make my job without worrying, Im enjoying, Im also attracted by the city, never though I could get this far".

Nothing really special in the article, IMO his not moving from To in a long time.

Belsius 01-10-2008 02:47 PM

Im not a big fan of gasol, I actually prefer Bargs, If he turns into something decent lol,

Dr. J. Naismith 01-10-2008 02:57 PM

Thanks a million for the real translation Belsius. :D

Reassuring to know he loves his current situation and the City of Toronto. (not that I was expecting to say otherwise) He's just has a good head on his shoulders and a fantastic attitude overall. God love him. :)

I believe this is what I said from the start - he wants and needs to win above all else. He is not going to leave just to be the man and lose, the way we see with pretty much every other player in the league.

Does that not mean he would be a great fit in say . Cleveland?

Possibly - but I think what he's really looking at is the strength of the organisation. There's really no guarantees he could rely on in Cleveland. But if Lebron recruits him personally, then you never know. I wouldn't put my money on it.

Belsius 01-10-2008 04:07 PM

He would be amazing for cleveland. I agree winning is what moves him Lx, but thats not the only thing, hes prioritys are IMO:
1º-Winning while starting.
2º-A good city to live.
3º-Good Contract, decent money but no need for nothing really special.

Krazy Ivan 01-10-2008 04:58 PM

What Jose is trying to say is:"If somebody from Spain wants to come and see me play next year I cannot guaranty I'll in Toronto it will depend on Raptors offer. I enjoy my time here, I like the city."

In translation:"Although I like city and the team if they don't show me respect by offering me contract that is worthy of my talent I'll walk...

Kuzzy 01-10-2008 09:44 PM

Bargnani for Gasol?
u stupiiddd dudeeee.?
gasoll cant run for shit
dontr fall for his stats.
barely hits glass.
better then bargss.
but why give up on our 1st round pick for some guy with innjury problems.
and if Gasol wasnt spanish
u guys wudnt want him.
give AB 3 years.
no show??
go on from there.
in my oppinion Gasol SUCKS and is half a second faster then Z.

moremilk 01-11-2008 02:03 PM

i can't believe how underapreciated gasol is ... he would be the best player in toronto, and we don't want to trade andreea because we're afraid he might turn into dirk one day ... Best case scenario, andrees = 110% of gasol. Gasol is young, he has lots of years ahead of him, has a very decent contract (14/year I think) etc.

With every day passing, it's clearer and clearer to me that Bosh and Bargnani can never coexist - they are both PF and neither wants to play the center. So at some point we will have to move one of them for a real center.
