As much as he deserved it I can't help but think this may be a good thing overall for the Raptors. They do need to sign him and the price would likely have been higher if he was officially an All-Star. It'll still bepricey and there will be suitors out there, but i think this helps our cause going forward. It may also motivate him to perform at an even higher level.

shitty, but probably not a bad thing seeing as he's due for a big pay raise.

Ah fuck, it sucks. No real silver lining.

after JJ admission I kind of suspected Jose is not in, they proably tell the players in advance and there was nothing from the Raptors camp. Even so, he still has a chance to get in if anybody gets injured (JK, Wade etc) - if not, I guess next year. Maybe he'll be a starter next year, who knows ...

Somewhere in Burlington, Chuck Swirsky is crying.

But the news is great. We're already down one point guard - no need to exhaust or injure our remaining one.

HE WAS ROBBED!!!

Anyways, how long is Caron Butler out for? Was his injury serious?

Even if someone's injured, I have a feeling they'll put gay allen in.

David West is having a pretty good season, and it is the home court, but he's not an all-star IMO. Still, he's playing well and is on the second best team by record in the West, and that's how a lot of these choices are made.

Joe Johnson I'm on the fence about. Not shooting well, no steals/blocks. Still, he is on a "playoff team" (despite being 6 games under .500, heh).

Turkoglu? Getdafukouttahere! Good season for him and their team but come on, this is the all-star team not the "most improved player" team. Guess the same can be said for Calderon, but he is leading the league in something (assist to turnover plus right there in assists per 48).

Random note 1: Whoh would have thought maybe 6-7 years ago that Antawn Jamison would probably have the better career between him and Vince, and injuries wouldn't really even be a factor!

Random note 2: are Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu secretly the same person? Look at these numbers:

Hedo: 43.8%, FG 37% 3pt, 83.5% FT, 6.1 reb, 1.1 steals, .4 blocks, 2.9 TO, 4.3 ast, 19.4 points
Age: 28, height: 6'10

Rashard: 43.7% FG 38% 3pt, 85.3% FT, 5.2 reb, 1.1 steals, .4 blocks, 1.9 TO, 2.3 ast, 18.3 points
Age: 28, height: 6'10

I like Calderon but really, I'd rather have right now one of our most valuable pieces resting. Hell, let them take Jesus. He's just as deserving.

I don't get the resting excuse. We want him to rest rather than playing 10-20 minutes of non-contact basketball? Rather than letting the world see him throw alley-oops to LeBron James and Chris Bosh? I'd rather see him play personally; not very many guys tear their ACL, MCL, PCL and break 5 ribs in the all-star game .

Still, if Butler is out and Pierce gets a phantom injury, he just might get in...

Re: Bamby: I agree to a point, but generally speaking people watch the all-star game to watch offence not D. It's dangerous putting a guy who averages 4 blocks in there!

Nice summary Bballwatcher.

I've got to agree with your points...specifically the Calderon/Turkoglu similarities as they both pretty much fit the same mould. i've got to say that i'm dissapointed as a Raptor and Calderon fan that he was omitted, but not at all surprised.

If anything, i'm more pissed off about Doug Smith's stupid ass allstar reserve anouncement from yesterday. Can you say "getting fans' hopes up?" whats up with that?

And yeah, claudius... Camby was robbed. I completely agree.

Baron Davis should be pissed - Roy is good but Davis should have gotten the nod there. I'm pretty sure his numbers are better and his team has a slightly better record to boot.

I think I warned everyone he's just a media type, in other words hype before substance Seriously if you take any media guy serious enough to get pissed when they aren't right... you gotta go chill with a beer somewhere and think about some hot chick in a bikini or soemthing

Seriously i'm not picking on you..just taking this golden opportunity to gently assert my distaste for the media and spread my propagandistic view that they aren't a legitimate source of anything save entertainment....just part of my master plan to rule the world someday

Its a shame, but from a different perspective (offers Jose will get this summer) I'm kind of happy Jose wasn't selected. He'll make his All-Star debut next year, once Ford dealt elsewhere this summer.
