Jose Calderon Wants to Play for the Lakers

I thought this was good for a laugh.

Quote:

Jose Calderon mentioned in a Spanish interview that he’d like to play for the Lakers when asked what team he’d like to play for:

“Obviously everybody would like to play for Boston or the Lakers, because apart from being two of the best teams, everything around them is amazing. When you watch that, you’re like, “How cool!” But you’ve got to realize that it’s difficult to get a spot there.”

Jose Calderon has played all six of his seasons with the Toronto Raptors. Calderon, has career averages of 9.8 points, 7.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. Calderon in his career shoots 49% from the field and makes 38% of his three pointers.

Calderon has worn out his time in Toronto, but is not so cheap when you look at his annual salary. ($9.7 million next season and $10.5 million in 2012-13)

He also has ties with Pau Gasol as they played on the Spanish national team together, and has said in the past he would like to play with Gasol in the NBA.

Not worth a topic.
Obviously everybody would like to play for a contender

Make it happen, send jose and bargnani for Bynum and pick.

jeffb 06-09-2011 09:34 AM

Can't see the Lakers or Boston wanting him so whatever. It's amazing to me though, Bargnani wants to play in a warm climate and Jose wants to play for LAL or Boston. Ship both their asses to Minnesota.

Do it...trade him for a bag of chips or something. Free Bayless :D

It's like a regular person saying "I wanna be a rockstar" or "I wanna to be a famous actress".

Don't take it seriously, he's talking about hoop dreams. Literally ;)

MrClutch 06-09-2011 09:59 AM

once he leaves then our proper rebuild can happen

jeffb 06-09-2011 10:02 AM

What's with these players that go to europe and give these interviews and say stupid shit as if they think it'll never get out?

Aar_Canada 06-09-2011 10:17 AM

And this one, from newspaper El Matador...

I think the Lakers could have some interest in Calderon and he would be a good fit in their system IMO. He can shoot the ball and he doesn't turn the ball over - two skills needed for the triangle offence.

He shoots well but doesn't shoot and he's a good passer when it's safe to do so.....usually after dribbling for 15 seconds. Besides, that team needs a PG that can defend and that isn't him and they're not a dumb organization that'll want his salary for what he brings. With most players wanting to play there, they can do much better.

Mike Brown is probably not going to use the triangle.

Why do NBA players always talk about where they'd 'rather' play? So fucking stupid.

Chiggmo 06-09-2011 11:56 AM

Too bad hes not good enough...

powerfulpanda 06-09-2011 12:01 PM

if he does become a laker, he's gonna get chewed up by his teammates, the media and the fans on a regular basis

Saying it to the media while under contract to another team. That's the problem. Let's face it, it's far from professional or bright.

Is that for sure or are you speculating?

While I know Brown hasn't used the triangle offence before, the Lakers could still employ it as their main set, especially if they retain Hamblen and Cleamons as assistant coaches.
