Default Jose Calderon and Chris Bosh - Official AS reserve candidates

Quote:
Jose Calderon

Calderon gets the honor of being my only selection that will be a first-time All-Star. There are a variety of reasons of why Calderon is deserving (starting with his ridiculous 5.4 assist-turnover ratio and including his attaining the holy trio of percentages with 50-40-90), but the most impressive thing he's done is play Lou Gehrig to T.J. Ford's Wally Pipp. Since Ford went out on December 11 with a neck injury, Calderon has led the Raps to a 11-9 record while upping his points and assists averages to 14.5 and 9.3, respectively.

Chris Bosh

No, I'm not just taking Bosh because he dressed up like a Texas car salesman and told me to. CB4 earns the nod for ushering in a new era of successful basketball to Toronto post VC15. You can pencil in 20 and 10 next to his name in the scorebook every night, but you might have to use the eraser once in a while and double the numbers as Bosh has three 40-point games so far this season and grabbed 19 rebounds once as well.
They're definitely getting the attention. According to this writer, Jose should get the reserve guard spot and Bosh should get the wild card spot. It just may happen!

Ummmm, I was thinking that if Calde had like 2 or 3 more games like the one at boston, he would have a big chance, but I dont see that happening in one week.

I agree, but it's not like it's a hard-nosed, tiring game... more worried about late-night partying, but Bosh isn't really that kind of guy...

No, but being able to relax and be away from basketball would be nice for them, plus with our luck one of them would get hurt.

WOW, I'm sorry but if Jose makes the squad this will change the direction this team takes regarding our PG spot. I said it a couple weeks ago, but no way even if Ford comes back to 100% that Jose becomes a back-up. I'm sorry, it won't happen. Smitch committed to Jose being the starter for the remainder of this season and playoffs, but we'd be stupid to make him a back-up again even after this season. This goes far beyond the competitve banter between Jose and T.J. , but more that Jose's improved his game to the point where its getting recognized around the association. Good enough to make an All-Star team.

Imagine he gets picked as an all-star, and then we bench him. lol it would be curious.

The Pro-Ford fans will say that Jose will move back to his old role, but after the way he's stepped up now it won't happen in a million years. Love Ford, but I love Jose a helluva lot more for this team. Plus, Jose making the squad is definitely going to open up alot of teams eyes and I'm sure someone will make him a considerable offer. So, I don't think its going to be financially feasible to have both your PG's making 8+ million per season. Jose will get the same and if not more than Ford. That's alot of money invested in two people that play the same position. Can you say .... dilemma?

I would love to have em both, We would clearly have the best PG position 48 minutes a game in the league. The question is, will they develop to their maximun capacitie playing only half a game?.

BC wants them both and says they can co-exist in his interview podcast with Chad Ford on ESPN. He also says that he has gotten to know Ford really well since the injury.

On TNT last night, they all opined on who the reserves should be and there was no mention of Jose, and unanimous love for Bosh. The best was when Ernie noted that nobody at TNT picked Vince Carter, and Magic said, "don't even mention him, don't even mention him".

Anyway - I think Jose should get in there. But I don't expect it to happen. He hasn't been catching people's attention long enough.

Remember when Jose was getting all the attention. He was putting up all star numbers...something that Jack has failed to ever do. There is no way that Jack has played well enough to take over the starting position. Shit Caldy was even out playing him this year until he got hurt.

Look at every team that Jack has played for... he's ALWAYS started out as the backup.. and ALWAYS earned the starter's job.

He's just a very, good, savvy player that knows what it takes to win.

And that's not to say that Jose doesn't.... but the team is playing very well right now with Jack starting... so why mess with that?

Thats my point nothing has changed Jose still put up good numbers . Do I have to spell every thing out he had good numbers last year also. Hell he was expected to avg. 10 assists this year and 10 plus points. We had 9 new guys and Jose took the summer off..he was starting to come to form then he goes down with an injury. Jack has played his minutes and Jose still has better numbers. Jack got to play his major minutes also without Jose and against weaker injured riddled teams and guess what Jose still has better numbers.

For the 100th time the only thing that has changed since Caldy went down was our team d at the 2,3,4,and 5 spot. Jack gets beat but guys like Bargs has stepped up on team d.

What scares me though is that teams know that TO can have a pg controversy and the guy they are going after will be Jose not Jack or Banks. Teams will look to take advantage of BC but BC is too smart to let Jose go. Maybe Jack or Banks could be on the move. Regardless we are better with a Caldy/Jack or a Caldy /Banks as our point guards. The question should be who goes Jack or Banks?

Only to see the team give up on him. Jack climbs up the bean stock and always finds a way to come tumbling down finding himself with another uni on.
