Phew .... thank goodness they changed their minds at the last second.

Can you imagine how different things might be right now if that deal actually went down? Just food for thought while we’re pondering recent history and what might have been.

I remember last year at the draft I believe the deal was Childress and the #11 for Calderon. Childress would have been nice on this team. The #11 could have been turned into Rudy Fernandez, Acie Law, Thad Young, Al Thornton....

And they didn't want to give the 11th.

Which again speaks volumes for the Hawks heirarchy.

As much as I love Jose. I wouldn't have minded a Childress + Rudy/Acie/Thornton for Jose too much.

We would have had our future 2-guard in Childress and swingman in Thornton. Then again, hindsight is always 20-20.

But then Childress would just go to Europe like he did unless the Raps signed him

he's dreaming - the deal we asked was childress and the #3 pick for calderon. They countered with childress + #11 which we refused. I remember the media rumors very well.

You saying you wouldnt rather have Childress + Horford then Jose?

Obviously hindsight is blah blah blah, but if i could, sign me on!!

Hell, i would made the trade we made for JO, just for Horford, nevermind getting Childress aswell? Woulda been a rape trade imo

WHy would we need Horford we already have Bosh and if he plays centre he'll be undersized so there would be no real point in this trade except losing a really good PG

At 6"10 245, he isnt as undersized as you make it sound, he plays hard as hell and could be a fine C. I mean if Team USA is using Bosh as a C now, and Raptors at times use Bosh as a C, i dont see why Horford isnt a C?? The kid was amazing at florida, his work ethic and toughness are on an elite level, aswell as having a good skillset and being a generally nice kid. Whats not to like?

BTW JO at 6"11 260, isnt exactly towering over Horford. Horford isnt nearly as polished, by at his age, growing with this team, it could have been monsterous.

Horford is a stud. He's like a better, healthier Okafor with WAY more offensive moves and a higher efficiency.

With that said, I'm very happy with having Calderon and Jermaine on our team.

I'm going to admit that it was only last season that I really noticed how talented Calderon was. Childress is a freak, but the Raps are lucky that the Hawks didn't jump on that.

Maybe its just me or I haven't watched enough of Childress but I don't hold him in the highest regard like some other here do. So, I'm extremely glad the deal fell through.
