No......to answer the question, simply put! He's not even top 5
Just because he played a lot of games in their uniform doesn't mean that he's a franchise great. The Raptors have a below .500 record with him as our starting PG so although he has decent numbers (assists, free throw percentage,etc..) his impact has been minimal towards Toronto's success. He did the most for this franchise when he was coming off the bench in the season Toronto won the Atlantic Division. Jose's a big reason why the offense is very stagnant and settles for jump shots because he holds onto the ball until there is single digits left in the shot clock. He doesn't take the necessary risks/passes (just to protect his assist to turnover ratio in my opinion) when making plays. He can penetrate but dribbles back out after he gets in deep. He's a good player, especially if he was on a team like the Lakers or Heat but not for a team like the Raptors where he's counted on and considered to be the third best player. 1. Vince Carter (everybody get over it) 2. Chris Bosh 3. Antonio Davis ^^^ Those three all led Raptor teams into the playoffs and made at least one All Star Game appearances Alvin Williams, Charles Oakley , Andrea Bargnani , Damon Stoudemire & maybe even Morris Peterson are all ahead of Jose Calderon as far as all-time Raptors go. While i wouldn't put him as high as third, i would think he's top 6.
Jose gets knocked a lot for his health, but if you want to talk overpayed, injured point guards ALvin Williams is your man. I don't see what makes Oakley so great other than being really savvy and tough. Oakley wasn't all that great. Mopete was decent, but at the same time pretty average (in what % of time here was he even a starter?). Stoudamire wasn't here long enough to really be put in the running. Jose is pretty much at the Mopete, Alvin Williams level if you ask me and ranking them is pretty much splitting hairs. Shit even Antonio Davis only had one really strong season. |

McGrady's first couple of years were mostly developmental...his contract year when they made it to the playoffs was the year he played well but it wasn't until after he left he really became a solid player...I'd say top 15 honestly(as a Raptor)...I think even Tracy Murray had some equally as impressive games as McGrady as a Raptor

One could make the case that Bosh should be # 1. Despite Carter's obvious insane stats and play, the raps won one playoff series with him. Without Bosh there would be no banner that the raps have. It's nice to have a banner in the rafters. The inaugural season one is irrelevant.
Also, I loved Mo Pete. I was pissed when he wasn't resigned and BC gave out some $ to the great Jason Kapono. My brother said it best, "this guy makes how much money because Wade gave him some open threes" |

Keon definitely had more impact. T-Mac had some nice moments through that one season, but he wasn't even the third best guy on his team on many nights. There's no way he's third best Raptor all-time.

The intent wasn't best as in overall skill and impact on the court, it was best career as a Raptor. Longevity definitely counts.
I liked Mo-Pete, he played some great bball here, but Jose has been a more efffective NBA player. TMAC didn't spend enough time in a Rap's uni and he wasn't close to peaking at that time. Davis, Oakley, Stoudamire, AWill, Christie. Jose is in that group of guys behind Vince & Bosh. With a few more years of sustained production, I think longevity in a Raps uni puts Jose third. |

Yep - that's about right. Still depressing. I'm going to go read Bill Simmons' piece on the Warriors again, and wonder what the fuck he's so upset about, or at least why he can't write a similar piece on the Raptors. I mean the Warriors won 50 games in a season. I can only dream of such a thing.
