Default Jonas Valanciunas to join Raptors in 2012-13

The Raptors have reached a buyout agreement with Lietuvos for No. 5 pick Jonas Valanciunas, who will come to the NBA in 2012-13.
Valanciunas wasn't likely to play this season anyway, and this is a solid coup for GM Bryan Colangelo -- many teams were worried about Valanciunas' buyout, yet it took Toronto less than 24 hours.

Excellent news in that we only have to wait a year, and he'll get some more seasoning. I wonder if Val's camp tried to scare the Cavs by making his buyout seem more ominous than it really was?

You mean this summer, on TV or internet? USA and Lithuania u19 teams play on Tuesday, he may play, Im not sure. Too best u-1992 teams in the world and it will be televised (is that a word?). I believe I can find some internet links.

And then of course u-19 world champ in Latvia. And finally, Eurobasket. Not guaranteed he will make the team, but its very likely.

good job BC, as for cleveland being pissed it all depends if you believe the hype, I saw the intro of KI and TT and they say they have been targeting TT for a while...of course they'll say that and of course we'll say what we're saying

I'm pretty sure Colangelo had a strong idea about what was going to happen with the buy-out before the draft. I get the impression that JV and his camp might have blown smoke at CLE and maybe other teams about the buy-out because he wants to play in TO. If there is an extended lock-out, as seems likely, then JV playing in Euro actually helps his development compared to other players drafted this year. He will be playing a ton against good competition.

that's optimism....blowing smoke at cle to play in to???? c'mon the kid would be happy to play anywhere in the NBA never mind as a higher draft pick and more guaranteed money, especially if a commisioned based agent is involved

It was his agent that handled questions about the buyout at the acc today. Jonas wasn't saying a word about it. That could be to make sure he doesn't say the wrong thing. I could see a guy still learning English wanting to take a little less money for the sake of less culture shock. He's got linas here, and maybe big Z didn't leave a great impression of Clevland over there.

maybe, either way at least this didn't turn into a drawn out saga and whether JV is good or bad that's a good thing
