You can even die from drinking too much water. And it has happened. A radio show contest caused that once if I remember right.

If he denied to be the driver what do they have other then some McDonald's employee's word?
So if someone sees me stealing something and calls the cops, then they got nothing on me? If he could be identified then it's not someone's word against his. It's someone identifying him as a guy with an open beer while driving, and then a test showing that he had been drinking. I imagine the cops asked him if he was the owner of the vehicle and what he had been doing that evening upon their arrival at the home.

I was questioned by cops for a hit and run as a kid. My car was in the driveway. My parents were not home. I had a story with alibis and a lot of details that put me nowhere near the incident. They didn't give a fuck. My car didn't even have a mark on it. Didn't matter. It was the model that was reported and the license plate matched. They finally decided to call the station before taking me in, probably due to the lack of damage on my car, and the plate number was in fact off by two characters. They apologized like crazy, but they at no time were concerned about how it was someone else's word. This is not an insurance fraud case with various possible conflicts of interest. It's a simple reporting of drinking while driving.

Police say officers located the vehicle at a home, where they arrested Valanciunas alleging he was under the influence of alcohol while driving.

they can't trust a roadside test. if you fail that they cuff you and haul you in to the station. then they breathalyze you on a real machine. if you blow 0.1 (not 0.08, because they allow leeway in their tool), they wait 15 minutes and do it again just to be sure. Yes I know this and yes I was very lucky and yes 15 minutes matter.

If he were the mayor, he wouldn't even have been charged. He could have thrown the bottle out the window. He could have even had someone deliver crack to him in full view.....no evidence.

No. It's not that hard. Again from my own experience - it goes like this - is that your vehicle in the driveway? Can i ask where you were this evening? What time did you arrive here? At the same time the person living there is asked what time Jonas arrived and whether any alcohol had been consumed. If yes is the reply then they will be asked what was consumed and where the glasses and/or containers are.

The idea that the cops roll in there ready to lay charges immediately is just wrong. They are going to be entirely aware that he could have made the test results irrelevent, so they are going to go in with the intent of ensuring they can rule that out before giving anyone a chance to even make the claim. They know what they are looking for in terms of answers. Those questioned do not. Jonas clearly thought nothing of what he had done, so the likelihood that he would go from nonchalance to immediately working out a way to cover it up is not likely in the least.

I though this was a joke from a joke website when my friend texted me the article. We should wait to judge before all of the details come out.

It was pretty funny reading the realgm thread about this, and how overboard every poster went. Some of the posts said that MLSE is going to go out of their way to make an example of him, and that they'll demand that Ujiri trade him now. It was hilarious.

I'll reserve judgement for now, as should all of us until we learn exactly what happened.

From what I've read so far, a decent lawyer will get him to walk, and rightfully so. Just wait and see - he won't be convicted.

He may not be convicted, but hopefully this wont result in a suspension this season, or next, unless of course he actually was drinking and driving over the legal limit.

I believe the Nets suspended JKidd after his suspension right after it happened. This would be a really bad blow to our playoff chances if we happen to lose Jonas the next game or two and end up in the 4th spot. It'll be interesting to see what the Raptors organization does.

I wonder if it'll be a question of setting and example, and morals, versus winning.

RealGm is up to 62 pages/1,235 posts on this topic so far. That place is at times fascinating to read. lol

Dante Cunningham can choke out his girlfriend and play for the Timberwolves the following evening. This infraction will not cause JV to miss any games. He did something stupid, but thankfully nobody got hurt.

No. I don't. You give Jonas too much credit for being at a Rob Ford level of denial and coverup. Hope to hell that is not the lesson he learns, and that needing a beer while driving doesn't indicate a bigger problem. I would guess, and hope, it is just a kid doing something stupid.
