Hundred percent. There's no reason why he couldn't get someone to drive, pay someone to drive, or take a damn limo home. There isn't a much worse time for this to occur. He needs to be more mature than this though, he really could have hurt someone.

Just saw on the news his first court appearance is April 22nd, in Collingwood. Really hope we aren't going to be on the road at that time.

he was charged. not convicted. let's see what actually unravels before pointing fingers.

even if he is charged, maybe he didn't know that in toronto the BA level is absolute 0 until 22 (I think?). maybe he had a beer, and didn't know the law. still stupid of him not to check, but he didn't necessarily have a night out then go for a late evening drive.

again, let's see what unravels

Valanciunas IS going to get suspended w/ a guilty or no contest plea to this. Pretty cut-and-dry NBA policy - 2 games for a DUI conviction.
NBA policy according to some on Twitter

Yeah, look above your post.

How long would it take to convict?

As pointed out, upon conviction. His first appearance in court is Apr 22nd, but thinking about this again, he could have a lawyer represent him for his first appearance I believe.

We can blame it on his age, but that shouldn't be an excuse. Lost a lot of respect for JV, he will have to stand by his mistakes and earn that respect back. Drunk driving (I would really like to know if he was actually drunk or just had a drink) is inexcusable imo.

Imagine if he's suspended for game 6-7 in the first round

Hopefully he doesn't turn into Keon Clarke who just recently got 8 years in the Penn.

They'll probably release what his blood alcohol level was. He had open beer cans in his car when driving through a drive through restaurant. It's insanely stupid. I'd guess he wasn't wasted, but still.

I forgive Jonas,It was a mistake and I'm sure he'll learn from it. Nobody is perfect and I rather him experience this now when he's younger opposed to being older and a veteran. Hopefully it doesn't effect his play because he's been playing very effective lately.

I just don't understand rich people that drink and drive. Take a limo, hire a driver.......I would have done that when I was 21 if I was rich. We all do dumb things when we are young but there is no excuse for that....it's not like he couldn't afford a cab or anything.

the DUI threshold is 0.5. a 160 pound man is said to be able to reach that mark after 2 drinks, let's not talk about the possibility of him killing people because I'm sure val wouldn't go on a random alcoholic binge during the season.

obviously though it would suck if he was suspended. I didn't even know the nba gave out consequences for DUI's. does that even happen in the NHL or NFL?

hopefully they'll find a way to postpone it on account on him being in the playoffs, it would be horrible to lose 2 playoff games because of this.

He is not 160 pounds. And why not talk about the possibility of him killing people? Are you kidding? The possibility is entirely there.
