I wonder what JV was getting? Big Mac, Whopper...Uncle Burger? Big Bacon Classic. My bet is Big Mac combo with water. It's wierd that he's driving around with open containers at 2:30 in the morning getting food.

Like how long was he driving for at that time? Did he leave Toronto that late at night and drink on the way up, or was he cruising around Wasaga drinking?

I know these questions don't matter but I'm curious.

Allegedly. ALLEGEDLY.

There's a big big difference between being charged and being convicted. At this moment, Jonas Valanciunas has not broken any laws.

We don't know if he drove under the influence. You all are assuming. This is a fundamental basis to our constitution and legal system.

Given the alleged facts, JV was seen driving with open beer bottles by an eye witness report. Cops found his car, found him in his home, and took.a breathalyzer test. He was charged with DUI.

The facts of the case don't prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, because that's what our criminal code is also based on, innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If this was a civil case it's a different issue but it's criminal.

As people have said, JV could very well have drank a few beers once get got home. There's no way to prove otherwise. There's no way to prove the open beer bottles were his. Since he wasn't charged with having open alcohol in his car, he can't be found guilty for that either, as enough time has passed by to make any accusation onto him for anything else at the time of the incident null.

i hate to contribute to this morass of lunacy, but we do not know what his blood alcohol level was. the report is that he blew over 0.08, which is the legal limit. we don't know if he blew 0.09 or 0.15, or whatever. all they said is that he blew over the limit. everyone needs to step waaaaaaaaaay back from the edge and just let this play out. quite clearly, the police, the team and jv have a significantly better handle on this situation than anyone on here. so chill dudes.

You can charge someone a DUI at their home just by an eye witness report (of an earlier event)?

Let's not forget that it was reported that the police investigated. They didn't just charge into a house, hold him down, test his blood alcohol levels and then lay charges. The tested levels are one piece. The eyewitness account and initial report to police is another. And the investigation would have to link everything properly, in which case there probably isn't much room for Jonas to maneuver. He needs to face the consequences, learn from it, and move on. As should we all, as long as he does his part.

you so conveniently evaded the most important part. I don't see how they could make such a connection, do you? if you do, please explain?

he is alleged to have done something. Until tried, and convicted or plead guilty, he is innocent. end of discussion.

Well I haven't seen too many on this site totally ripping JV. You made drunk driving public service messages, now you made a dumb mistake and got caught so own up, and then move on. What's wrong with that? It was silly 3 times over. He has plenty of options because of $$$, he must be about 240 lbs so he surely had more than a couple, he had no issue displaying the booze in the car for people to see.

And for those claiming that 0.08 is not impaired, I have a new game. Next rainy night at the end of some country rave party, you get to stand on the yellow divider line a quarter mile down the road. No worries though. We'll only let through those who blow over 0.08 and 0.11. They're not impaired. Lol.

And for bjjs, I vote he was getting Wendy's. "Eat great! Even late!". They all look like a bunch of snitches in there.

Where did i evade anything?

You don't see how they could make a connection? They arrive and ask to speak to the owner of the vehicle. They ask him whether he has been driving that vehicle, and if so when. They ask him if he's had anything to drink since arriving. If he hasn't, they ask if he's had anything to drink prior to arriving. If he or the resident of the house say that he has been drinking since arriving, they ask what. They inform him of the call that suggested that he was driving with open containers of beer. Now maybe before they even come to the door they check the vehicle and see the empties. Also, we are not talking about a big town here. Chances are there was not a lot of time elapsed between the call coming in and when a patrol car came across the vehicle. Chances are Jonas told them he had just arrived.

Sure he is innocent at the moment in legal terms, but what is your point exactly? He clearly is remorseful and apologetic, and accepts responsibility. And considering all that, do you not think there is a good chance that he will face some legal repercussions, and that he in fact should face some legal repercussions?

Why is everyone so butt hurt? I know it's bad timing but maybe he really wanted to create that tough guy image just in time for the playoffs. He is proving to be more badass than the "Birdman", but far more personable! It's kind of like rappers getting shot or going to jail to really garner some quick street cred. Jonas is like the next Kevin Garnett, minus the "studio gangsterness". This is just the evolution of a championship team.

With that said, I do not condone or endorse any drinking and driving.
