Question Is John Lucas joining Raptors' Staff?

After listening to him during the Heat game it seems like it.

He is a good coach and he would be a great asset to the coaching stuff...

that's what they said - I wonder if he's the coach they want for Andreea and CB4.

I thought a couple weeks ago they were implying that they'd be bringing in a big man coach. Lucas isn't the big man couch that I was picturing, but as for being a motivator I think he would be a wise addition especially for T.J.'s confidence.

He would keep TJ in the right mindset and players like Juan and Hump optimistic.
Wouldn't make him an assistant coach, but id put him somewhere in the staff.

Lucas is a point guard coach and a great conditining guy. Yes, from that lengthy interview it sure seemed like he is going to stick around in some capacity. Maybe we won't need Martin any longer?

It sounds like he is good friends with Chris, TJ, Hump and Dixon already..so having someone with the trust of your players would be a great move for BC.

He seems a tad meddlesome. He helped TJ now beat it.

I know the perception of Lucas is probably that he is biased towards TJ but he had some pretty impressive things to say about TJ's court vision and ability to run a team for a pg his age. I truly believe that a lot of people's opinions that he is selfish and looks for his own shot first are exagerrating. Anyways... anyone with a bball resume like Lucas has can only help the organization IMO.

I don't want to reiterate too much here, but I agree that Lucas is a nice addition. However, I don't see the great need for him except for essentially being what Sam Mitchell is to Chris Bosh, a confidant. And maybe that aspect might disturb me a bit.

However, I still think, we desperately need a big man coach on this team, espescially in assisting Bargnani to reach the peak in his development. And I just don't see Lucas helping in there all that much, but maybe he's changed snce his last coaching gig in Cleveland.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

In The Star today, they've mentioned some sort of a consultant role being discussed for him.

That was the talk last night during the game when he was sitting in with Chuck and Jack..he made it sound like it had been discussed.

Under Lucas's tutelage, in the spartan digs of a Houston-area recreation centre, Ford endured a basketball boot camp that broke his body down to build it up.

"We did old, old, old-school stuff," said Lucas, who went on to describe the rigours of crabwalks up and down stairwells and court-length wheelbarrow races in which Ford's hands did the running.

The Raptors have been impressed enough with Lucas's work that they're contemplating hiring him in a consultant's role to continue to help Ford's transition back into the lineup.

Lucas seemed enthused by the prospect. "Any way I can help, and help T.J., I'm happy to help. ... I think Chris Bosh has MVP potential. I love to be around guys that want to be stars."

Said Ford of Lucas, with whom he works out during the off-season: "Injured or not injured, he's my guy that I put trust in to get to that next level."

On the long journey to the next level, of course, Ford had to find the will to take the first step: The one over the out-of-bounds line on to the floor.

"I pushed him to try to quit, for one reason: To see how badly he wanted to play," said Lucas. "And at the end of it all, that's what his response was, `I want to play.'"

Ford wants to play, in front of the throngs or in the backyard, for a long time to come.

"This is what I love to do. It is worth it to me. If I didn't love to do it, it would be easier to shut it down," said Ford. "Besides, if I got hurt and I retired, y'all got one more report to write about me, and then I'm done. ... Can't let y'all forget about me that easily."

Last night they were saying that Lucas used to work with Robinson, if that's true, than I would take him over a Patrick Ewing for example. Just because you used to be a great big, that doesn't make you a good coach for the position, not necessarily at least.
