Default Joey Graham Fighting for His NBA Life

Just a little blurb courtesy of Hoopsworld regarding Joey.

I don't know, but does this not sound very similar every summer from Joey. How many damn lives will this guy get? I guess because of lack of depth this season we're forced to have Joey back yet again next season.

Coming out of Oklahoma State University in 2005, scouts were raving about Joey Graham's athleticism and his chance to one day be an impact player in the NBA. After being selected by the Toronto Raptors with the 16th pick, Graham's career started slowly. Three years later, Graham has yet to gain any real traction and fell out of the Raptors' rotation in 2007-08. This set of circumstances make this summer perhaps more important than any other in Graham's career.

"It's just rekindling the flame that I had missed throughout the season," Graham told HOOPSWORLD on Saturday in Las Vegas. "It's just a matter of me coming out here, playing hard and doing the same stuff I've been doing while I've been in the Toronto Raptors organization."

Entering the final guaranteed year of his rookie contract, Graham is running out of chances to prove he can one day reach his potential. Still, Graham is hopeful that with the addition of Jermaine O'Neal the Raptors will be a team to be reckoned with next season and that his versatility off the bench could play a role in the team's resurgence.

"When Jermaine or Chris (Bosh) is tired, I can definitely come in and play that position. When Jamario (Moon), (Anthony Parker) or Jason Kapono are tired I can play that position, too. Me being able to play multiple positions is an advantage for this team."

On paper, Graham's sentiment makes sense. However, the onus is on him to prove it to the Raptors with his performance between the lines. Anything less could leave the former first round pick looking for work next summer.

He needs to play, and play well.So we can trade his ass in a package and get something in return.Right now he's only worth a low end D-League player at best.He needs to raise his stock, and as they say there is no were to go but up.

Thing is, Joey can play as well as he did yesterday but it still isn't going to change anything come this fall. Only way I seem him playing or contributing with this team is if we're thin because if injuries or in foul trouble. Other than that, I expect Joey to be this year's Maceo Baston and rot at the end of the bench. I've lost all faith in Graham and have absolutely no expectations for him. I'm pulling for Graham to be bought out by the end of this season.

Did his mother write that?

Word is, Joey is the most sociable person in the locker room. That might have given him another chance.

Be nice to see some PT from Smitch this year.

Or the fact that he is on contract... or an expiring contract that we can use for trade bait to get a some insurance during the playoff run

I predict that Joey Graham will be gone by the trade deadline. We can sign a couple of ten days to fill the 13th position on the bench and be listed DNP.The Graham experiment is almost mercifully over.

I kinda feel bad for him. I hope he can produce a little better this year. But he could be used in a package deal though come trade deadline. We're just gonna have to see how he performs for the first half of the season or so.

Players are people too and when you throw out insults with no substance it just reflects back on what type of person you are.

He's a schmuck to say he can back up JO/bosh and that he can play their positions. He says he's versitile and can play many positions? Since when? He can't play one position well enough to get his ass off the bench let alone several positions. What he should be saying is i need to get better and prove i can play in this league.

Schmuuuuuck.

but he can....what's the problem?

Joey can be successful at the 4 considering his athleticism, rebounding, and strength.

He can't even play the 3 good enough to get minutes. To start saying he can play several positions is rediculous. He needs to say he needs to improve his play and prove he belongs on this team and can contribute before saying he can play the 4/5 positions (which won't happen).

joey's dillusional. If he had any smarts he'd watch game tapes of what he does when he gets playing time. and then work towards correcting his one dribble pull-up bricks and trying to dribble through players who've established defensive position. he's been making the same mistakes for three years. Joey is as one dimensional as they get. There's no way he's capable of playing in this league as it stands because he has a tremendous amount of difficulty of harnessing his athleticism to his advantage. If he can't dissect his own play and adjust accordingly, how is he to then progress towards doing that to other players.

I've always thought Joey should be playing the 4. He's too dumb for the 3, he sucks at dribbling, doesn't know how to move without the ball, when to take his jumpshots, etc. As a backup 4 who concentrates on getting boards and occasionally driving, he'd do better, I think.

JOey has the body of a 4 and the brains of a rock. He is best suited as a cheerleader on the sidelines. If he must be on the court in a blowout then he should play the 4.

I love when people with less B-Ball knowledge in than an NBA player has in his left nut call the guy Dumb, or stupid, or question his "Basketball IQ".

It's pretty funny.

Maybe Joey isn't making it.
Maybe he needed to be moved two years ago, and that would have helped him.
Maybe he isn't as motivated as some other guys to win.
Maybe he isn't quite as good as other guys.
Maybe his confidence took a pounding in his forst two years.

Who knows.

But one thing I know for sure, he ain't stupid, and he's about 5 times smarter at the game of basketball than any of us.

So instead of spewing bullshit, I'd love for you guys to enlighten me with something of substance as to why he doesn't seem to fit.

Joey's problem isnt necessarily his brains... although his IQ is lower than the majority of players in the league. Joey's issue is his attitude and his drive.
i dont know what it is with us, but it seems as though the raps always draft guys who have ZERO heart or desire.
Joey just seems to be a doormat. he doesnt seem to have a backbone and lets it all get him down and bother him.
its like he's content with not playing or just riding the pine. I'd love to see him in practice and how hard he works to improve or battle during this scrimmages... but i just get the feeling he just goes through the motions and does just enough to get by.

when you see the kid play or look in his eyes (of course i dont have the honor of knowing him personally, so this is just my opinion), but he looks as though he has NO love for the game.
basketball is just a means to an end for him. its his job, nothing more. it gets him a paycheck every 2 weeks.
sure, this is all my opinion, but it really seems to be the case for him. he doesnt look like he enjoys what he's doing and that his mind is elsewhere.
he has all the tools, but the most important - his mind - isnt there whatsoever.
its not that he's dumb, i think its more a matter of him not caring.
