Question Joey Dorsey: How much should he play?

Joey Dorsey has been averaging roughly 20 boards per forty minutes in the summer league averaging 9.7 in about 20 minutes. He has been tough, very good defensively and agressive in the summer league. Despite being severely undersized, he has been bodying other bigs so far. He's ridiculously strong and athletic. He has never really been given too much of a chance in the NBA but when the Rockets allowed him to play 19 minutes last season he got 12 rebounds.
So my question is do you guys think Dorsey is ready for some sort of role with the Raptors and if yes how much should he play?
I personally for the reasons stated above do believe he can be a rebounding force of the bench that doesn't back down from a bigger opponent. I think he has the right attitude and that even though he's undersized, and we have other young big men we want to develop I still believe we should fit in at least 10-15 minutes a game for this guy.

If we can land another Center he won't touch the floor much.

let's do it. This year should be a write off for us so let's experiment with some new talent. No need to get veterans imo

It sounds good in theory, but he's not getting any PT unless he performs well in preseason. So far, Dorsey has not faced an elite big and needs to prove he could transfer his strong performance in the summer league against the Dwight Howards, Tim Duncans, Chris Boshs and so on. So to answer your question, play him in preseason. If he performs well give him a solid 10 minutes in reg. season to see how he plays. If he plays well, then good for him keep on playing him,

he should get the same role Reggie got last season. like 10-15 mins to show us what he's got. I do believe he could be a force on the defensive end and a solid put back machine. I wanna see how big he is compared to Howard. I know howards got like 4-5 inches on him though.

Dwight is listed at 6,11 and 265lbs though it may be more.
Dorsey is listed at 6,8 268lbs.
(from NBA.com)

On a side note, someone said that Dorsey is what you would get if Shaq and Schwarzennegar had a baby.

i remind me a little this "fat player", big baby davis from boston.
underevalueted, but finally a solid guy who came from the bench.
if he can be this type of guy, i think he can be a legitim player on this roster.

why all of you guy want a C (amir, bargs, alabi, evans (for now), dorsey) that not enough for you ? lets them sowing what they have before wants another big guy (with i expect a huge contact what we don't need if we want keep our flexibility for the futures season)

maybe just get a rid of jose for another SF, maybe another PG, but i think waive him and it's all.

go for a young and inexperience team, who can match eachother and learn how play together, and with some other guy who would have a huge head and ask too much the ball.
because if you get a FA or a big name, we must know now he'll want the ball, and i prefer not begin again with a new Bosh type of system in our roster.

As of now Our big men are Bargs, Amir, Davis, Alabi and Dorsey. At thise point I think Alabi is too raw to actually get too much PT, so I think Dorsey would get more PT then him. So maybe like Bargs and Amir start, Davis comes in for Amir and maybe Dorsey for Bargs, but he won't get too much PT. Maybe like 15-20 minutes at most

Dorsey is built like Howard, true, but he is significantly shorter AND far less athletic, to the point where he mainly plays below the rim. Even with his girth and strength, I am afraid he is going to be eaten alive by the regular NBA big men, especially on offense. He has a chance of being a pretty good defensive rebounder, though.

Seriously Dorsey seems no taller then 6'7". According to Draftexpress pre-measurements he is 6'7.25" with shoes on. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/

Considering this should be a rebuilding year, we should give him some burn to see what we got.

Again, I like his work ethic, I like that he understands, or is beginning to, that he is a ROLL player and that if he rebounds, boxes out and defends then he'll get PT and really that's what I like.

I'm sick and tired of this team going out and paying money for a name and not developing guys or finding jewels who don't cost much and don't kill your cap. That's how SA is successful and has been successful for what 12 years now?

So let's go into training camp with Bargs as our C (otherwise what were the last 4 years about with him?) and have Amir and Dorsey as back ups.

i say that will be huge for him. a chance to go on a roster who can play him, and i think he can get confidence if this happen.

and with confidence, offensive mind will come more.
yes he is undersize, but the size don't do everything.

he know where to be to get all those rebound, he has a BBIQ and it's not something you can teach.

Do you mean like Schwarzennegar & DeVito in "Twins"?

I'm curious to see how well he'll do rebounding against legit NBA bigs. I'm cautiously optimistic about him playing the 2-6 minutes Bargs will be resting each night to take a breather.

Yep, but you can still split minutes. When Davis is in the game you play Amir at the 5 to rest Andrea. Andrea re-enters and Amir slides back and forth, you get the drill.

Dorsey should be given at least as fair a shake as Davis.

10 minutes per.

Garbage minutes or matchup against big body
He doesn't bring much picknroll defense not shot blocking. But I rather have him at the C than Amir when Bargs is resting.

I can't see why not, this is a throw away season, to hopefully get a top 3 draft pick, give em 10-15 maybe even 20 a game and let us see what he can do. Whats the worst that can happen? we lose? Lol who cares.

Says who? If you "throw away" seasons you end up like the Nets who have to select Favors over Wall. You end up like the Grizzlies who miss out on Oden, Durant and Horford and have to take Conley.

If you want to have "throw away" seasons and garbage like that then get off the board. Enough young players, and top draft picks, we are already loaded in that compartment. We need veteran play makers to glue everything together and this team can compete. And you can bet your bottom dollar Bryan is going to get one, soon. Go cheer for the T-Wolves, Cavs, or Kings if you want to have "throw away" seasons.
