Default Joel Anthony?

The Heat just signed Greg Oden as Anthony's possible/probable replacement.
Rumor has it he's on the market for a second round draft pick.
He's overpriced but has a short contract.

Non existent offensive game but a good defender, shotblocker, has championship experience. He managed to stick around with the Heat so he must have some game, they even signed him to a lucrative contract...

We could use an upgrade at the C, and yes, for what it's worth, he's Canadian!

Do we have the financial means to swing a deal and should we want to?

IMO I don't think he is an upgrade over Gray.

Not sure why they would trade him since Oden is a pretty much to a sure bet to be hurt at some point unless they are happy just signing a string of 15 days. Capped out eliminates most everything else.

Well the Heat can also play Bosh, Birdman, Varnado and Lewis at the C so Anthony appears to be the odd man out.

Birdman is way more popular than Anthony.

His price is too high. This year he makes 3.8 million, and has a player option @3.8 million for 2014/2015 season. Masai has done a great job of unloading Bargnani's contract, and acquiring good role players for 1-year contracts with a team option for the second.

Lewis? He can't play C. Varnado is a PF at 6'9 he is too small for a true C despite his 7'4 wingspan, maybe if they play small, but then you have Bosh or Haslem.

I'm sure he can if he really has to.
All I'm saying is the Heat have options.
Anthony has or will fall out of the rotation.

I wouldn't want Anthony and his contract here in TO. MU has been about saving $ and not giving up picks.

He sucks.

There's a reason Miami plays small ball.

The reason they play small ball has little to do with Anthony.
Miami is not known for throwing big bucks at bad players. They must've seen something in him at some point, and it's probably still there. But hey I've never really seen the dude play so why am I defending him lol

I don't know if he's even an upgrade over Gray. He's pretty bad.

Pretty sure that most people around haven't seen him play.... and even the ones who have don't seem to understand what he brought to the table for the Heat.

Solid rebounder. Good rim protector. Mobile defender who can guard out to 18ft. Only problem with him is that he's not the best finisher and he's a bit undersized (like Amir) to play C full time. That's why Birdman took his minutes. Can play the same role but is a bit longer and bit better.

Anthony is a better man to man defender than Birdman - I thought the Heat should have given him more minutes against Indiana - but understandably they didn't want to rock the boat with their rotations to soon.

Having mobile bigs who can defend a few feet off the perimeter is essential in today's NBA, and that alone makes Anthony a more valuable player than Gray.
